I'm always amazed by the people who make money on the web with simple websites that do nothing but sell other people's stuff. I'll admit that I even thought people were lying about it until I saw the proof. I once worked with this computer geek who loved to put up websites. He was at a coffee shop and saw a poster for a new movie that was about to come out. Trouble was the poster had a misprint. The movie URL had been misspelled. So he promptly bought the misspelled domain name then filled the page with banners for vitamin pills and get rich ebooks and all kinds of stuff and within a day he'd made $50 in commission. Crazy, huh? Now, granted he didn't keep makign $50 a day but still, people went to the wrong website and still bought stuff!
Ever since then I've been playing with the idea and slowly I've been learning the tricks of the trade and I thought I'd share them with you.
Here's the game. I'm building a site that sells my favorite thing - TV and Movie Memorabilia. When I say sell, I really mean I'm promoting affiliate deals. I don't actually have any physical products, no shipping, it's all virtual. The site may flop, it may be a big success, I don't know - but I thought it would be cool to watch it happen LIVE here on Gather.
Want to play along? It will cost you less than $20 a month plus your time. You might make a lot of money, you might not. But why not give it a shot!

EDITED: Apparently people are a bit confused. Not a scam, not a parody, just a Gather writer sharing some knowledge because I was pleased with my own results.
Here's the site I started and what I'm planning to teach people how to build
$20.00 is to buy a domain name and hosting but you don't even have to spend that.

Beware of "free" hosting sites, they tend to lack tools and usability, or have constraints that will defeat your purpose of having a site that pays.
Hunt around for web-hosting deals before committing to a hosting service.
Domain name registering can be bought-down to as low as a couple dollars a year if you do a multi-year registration. I did a two year registration of my domains in December and it averages $5.00/year for each domain.
So yes, Mr. Bill, you got it all right.
"mind-set" determination and preserverance. Started a Web business
about year ago and I change people lives, but its not for everyone. Not a get rich
quick scheme, requires a person to do the work to be successful. Good luck on
your website.

Thanks for the words of support. I wanted to post here because I think a lot people imagine that it's not something they can do if they aren't a programmer or some marketing guru. I never had a computer class in my life but by studying the web and trial and error, I've learned how to code basic HTML, set up and customize wordpress and the basics of SEO, Links, etc.
If I can do it, anyone can do it.
