This is the chronicle of Lieutenant Shayne Gabriel, former Marine Commanding Officer of the USS Saratoga, flag ship of the Independent Ships/Alpha Wing for Tactical Group 192 Bravo Fleet.
We find Lieutenant Gabriel exiled from her posting aboard the USS Saratoga following a rather nasty investigation...
"There are many issues here that cannot be simply unravelled. The testimonies for Lieutenant Gabriel at this point far out way the dubious testimonies against her. That being the case I could simply release the Lieutenant with relevant probation and restrictions. However, having said that, there is the question of a possible security breach on this ship, and several other known security breaches, as well as alligations of torture, assassination plots, conspiracy to corrupt a Starfleet covert operation, possible theft of restricted materials and almost another half dozen items I could probably list." Executive Officer James Bligh took in a breath and released it slowly.
"As Acting Command Officer of the USS Saratoga I am left with no other option than to release Lieutenant Gabriel to Starfleet JAG to thoroughly investigate the matter. As such all materials relating to this matter will be sealed, you will not discuss them with anyone, nor will you alter any information regarding this matter unless you are in direct discussion with a JAG officer. Due to the nature and seriousness of this matter it is my recommendation that those directly related be removed from the Saratoga, as well as all material in relation to it for a full investigation."
Not one of those who had testified on her behalf had liked the Executive Officer's decision. Shayne herself was resigned to it, especially after the 'cleaner' from her Intel Cell had killed Shelby VanCleave, her best friend, just before she had departed the USS Saratoga. Her last promise and goodbye had been made to Ensign Liam Eyss, the new Chief of Science.
From behind him a new security officer joined them. "Sir, I have orders from the Bridge that the prisoner is to be escorted in shackles and cuffs under security detail to an emergency transport to Starbase 192 immediately. Lieutenant Gabriel is also to be aboard that flight. We leave at once."
Liam looked sadly at Shayne, took her hand and lifted her from her position next to VanCleave. It caught him by surprise when she threw her arms around him and embraced him tightly, crying into his chest. He held her against him.
"Shelby's parents will want her things…"
"I will make sure they get them," Liam promised. "And I will take care of everything here for her. Will you keep in touch with me…if you can?"
As the security officer motioned that he needed Shayne to follow him Shayne let go of Liam and nodded.
"Farewell, then, Lieutenant…"
"Goodbye, Ensign Eyss."
Shayne stepped into the transport after the security detail had positioned the 'cleaner' and effectively an intel mole into a secure location aboard the shuttle. She was given a seat near the front of the ship and seated near a female guard. She was informed that what remained of her belongings would follow her on another transport at a later time. She nodded that she understood as the engines came to life. She watched out the window as the USS Saratoga began to shrink away…
