Passion about moving!!! YIKES

My experience involves when I was teaching in a small town with a populatioon under 1,000. While my son was at Church Camp during the summer of 1994, our family was told about a new house available to rent that was an upgrade from where we were living. (not many options in small towns) So before anyone else could rent it, we jumped on the chance and put the money down and started moving. We completely moved in about 3 days. We hired a friend to clean the house we just left. So there was no sign of our family ever living there. My son had no idea about the move. He got back from camp and went home. Boy was he surprised! No one was there and neither was our furniture. He at first started to panic, we were unable to call him at church camp because it was in a remote area secluded by anyone or any communication. I was a camp where they go get back to nature. So after his initial shock, he went down to the small town grocer store and asked the cashier if he knew where his family moved? HaHa everyone knew but him. Small town gossip gets around fast. He drove up to our new place and was quite upset with us but couldn't hide his laughter about the situation. Hugs, Char

I just hate all the packing... I've never really had a bad moving experience, but I can't stand packing and unpacking.

most of my move experiences have been pretty postitive. you just have to learn the quirks of the new place you move to.

I have to move soon & I'm afraid to read the horror stories :)

I don't really have horror stories, other than it is exhausting. I also think it is a great excuse to really start fresh and clean. I always wash everything from the kitchen as I unpack it. That way I know that everything is clean at once! Good luck!

I love to move because I love a good clean-out! This last spring, our family pretended to move. Every drawer, every closet, and the garage was gone through. We donated 10 carloads of stuff to Goodwill. So we're still in the same cozy little house, but now there's actually more room. Happy moving, wish I could help! :o)

We should follow Jana's lead! Our daughter, a firefighter for six years, told us that our place is every firefighter's nightmare.

Our nightmare experience? We were so sleep-deprived the last day of the move that we accidentally left our four year old in the backyard of our old house, playing happily in the sandbox (for all I know, he is still there).

I"M KIDDING! I turned around to talk to him, only a few minutes into the drive to our new home and he was not there. I started frantically digging through boxes and then came back to reality...and screamed. My husband nearly hit another car. Lesson: Never scream before telling someone you will and DO NOT forget you have children.

Hi, Jane. Books, students' papers, magazines stacked up in cardboard boxes all over the place, for starters, lining the hallways. Pack-rat mentality -- never throw anything away until forced to. Income tax returns in the attic go back 25 years at least. My wife is hardly any better, except she organizes her piles. It's a mess, but it's OUR mess and we love it. LOL

Moving would be a catastrophic blessing in disguise.

Heres my story:
We have moved 5 times in 12 years all within state.
I was dating a guy and then we got an apartment together (1)
Married that guy and bought a huge house (2)
had a kid with that guy decided to be a stay at home mom- filed bankrupcy & sold home (3)
moved to apartment to save money but hated upstairs neighbors and no yard (4)
moved to beautiful rental home but after wrecking 2nd car and driving back /forth roundtrip 4 times a day for work & school we moved AGAIN
(5) we are now in a townhome/patio home and the management company is horrible and I'm ready to call the local tv station to do an expose on them. That's a whole other story - sorry to be so long winded!!!

All of your responses are great. I finally got 3 sons to commit to helping their poor old mom move. lol... but it will not be fun. I do like the clean out though. This time I definately will be throwing out those boxes that I never unpacked a year ago when I moved. Hehe. Pray for me that I follow through on throwing stuff out...Char
