Behind the Veil: Book One
His breaths came in short bursts. Still stunned at what just happened. He was lying on the floor of his office with a bullet wound in his stomach. He had no idea how it happened for he was in shock. He could feel a warm liquid seeping through is cloths. He lifted up his hand to find it covered in blood. His life flashed by him as he took his last breaths and his heart beat faded. He was ten and was in a race. Running against the toughest runner there was. He pulled a head at the last minute and his chest broke through the red ribbon as the crowd cheered. His face beaming as the vision faded.
Now he was 17 and he was driving down the dark road in a brand new 1972 covetable. Again he is beaming. Talking to his girlfriend in the front seat he does not notice that he had swerved into the other lane as the car came crashing into the van coming in the opposite direction.
He savored these memories as the moments slowly ticked by. His blood now consumed the entire floor beneath him. He knew what came next. He had spent his entire life studying death and what happens after it. His current theory and his last was that once the soul had exited the body it would hover over its body for a moment and then float away to a veil.
He felt his last breath come and felt his beating heart seize. His eyes were closed and looked as though he had just fallen asleep. The pool of blood was growing cold as his soul was washed away into an abyss of sorrow.
