Author Mameve Medwed is coming out with a new book on April 22, Of Men and Their Mothers. The Fiction Readers group is providing 10 members who wish to write a review of the book with a free copy!
About the book: Maisie Grey--formerly Maisie Grey-Pollack of Pollack Poultry--has had enough. With an ex-mother-in-law from hell, an on-again/off-again boyfriend, and a teenage son who shows all the signs of following in his (gulp) father's family's footsteps, it's enough to make her lose it.
Maisie clashes with the Pollacks over everything from social status to her son's upbringing, all the while maintaining her own business, working as a factotum to all those in need. But when Maisie strikes up an unlikely alliance with a young mother at odds with the child welfare system, things in her hometown will never be the same.

My mother in law is evil. Seriously.
My husband is quite close to his mother, and it's taken some time for him to realize that he's allowed to make decisions regarding our family now...and not rely on what his parents would do, or how his parents did it.
This looks like it tackles many different issues, but is entertaining at the same time. I would love to review this book!
My mother-in-law is pure EVIL in every sense of the word! While my hubby and I were dating, if he were to be in anotherroom or outside with his dad... she would tell me how she wishes he would marry his ex and have kids with her! That she's never liked any of his girlfriends as much as she liked his ex. She would go on and on and try to do everything in her power to break us up!
Here we are still together 11 years later!

I'd like to review this book because I'm on both "sides".
My wicked witch of a mother n law died on Halloween night, and rightly so.
I would love to read this book, I not only sympathize with it, I lived it and came out the other side a better person.
I have a fairly large readership here on gather and look forward to reading and reviewing this book.
Thanks, Terry B
I fought very hard for my son throughout his public school years to get him even minimal services that he needed. I've been fortunate to now be a support and source of information for parents just entering the public school system who have children with special needs.
I will be happy to review the book on Gather and post on a number of other channels, as well.
I've reviewed books on Gather before and find it a fun writing challenge.
I would love to read and review this book.
This Book sounds like it would be a great read and fun as well.
Anyway......I'd love a chance to read this book! I'd love to see how the mother in law character compares to my honest to goodness "monster-in-law"!
is adrawing card.
There is nothing more fascinating than men and their mothers. There is certainly a lifelong attraction. I think about famous relationships; Oedipus and his mother; Barbarba Bush and George W.; June Cleaver and Beaver; even Superman and his mom, Martha Kent played to perfection on television by Annette O'Toole.
I also think about people I have known. Friends who have known my husband say I look just like his mother; Another friend delayed his own marriage until he was fifty-something so he could take care oif his mom. When I was growing up, I knew two mothers who demanded perfection from their sons. Nothing short of straight A's and the lead in the school play would do. One young man killed himself when he was 24. The other has been a bum for most of his adult life.
I digress. I am looking forward to reading this book.
A novel about this type of relationship has to be great.
