Eat, Pray, Love - By: Elizabeth Gilbert
It is hard to write a review about a book that is so good & that touches you in the way this book did for me. I did not want it to end, in fact I drew out reading the entire book for weeks!
On the cover it says "One Woman's Search for everything across Italy, India & Indonesia.
This is a non-fiction book, about the authors true trials & travels.
Liz starts off in Rome, where she eats, and eats, and eats! She is so happy to finally put some pounds on her too thin frame. Recewntly divorced, and split up from a boyfriend the trials of such have left her thin & confused. Rome was all about indulging, and boy did she indulge!
The whole Rome section deals with a lot of the baggage that Liz is carring around as well. This is where we get the big glimpse into her past & what she is hoping to do in this year of travel.
After Rome comes India. Liz has been into Yoga for a long time & has travelled to India to study at her Guru's retreat there. This section of the book makes me what to go on a spiritual journey myself! She learned so much about herself while in India. How to control her thoughts, emotions, and reactions. The retreat was a wonderful journey for her.
Of course the last portion is in Indonesia, on the small island of Bali. Since the frist section was on eating, then the 2nd section was on prayer & spiritual journey...you guessed it, this portion is about love, although it didn't start out as that.
Liz's journey to Indonesia was a return visit. Two years ago she had been there & had her palm read by a healer, he invited her to return & study with him. Upon her return....he did not remember her...at first that is. Once he remembered her (Liz the writer from New York!), he was overjoyed & they started a journey together of visiting daily. She learning so much about his healing, and Liz helping him somewhat with his english.
After awhile, Liz meets a wonderful man, and slowly falls in love. She tries not to. This year long journey was not meant to be about love, but fall she does & with a man that is perfect for her.
The book ens with them together & talks about her next book Weddings and Eviction, a memoir about her unexpected journey into a 2nd marriage & some more of her travels.
I am looking forward to this book coming out in 2009 from Viking books.
It is hard to convey how this book touched me, and connected with me. I would like to recommend that you read it if you have the chance.

It's too bad there did not seem to be any reference to God in here, because really, how can you live your life without Jesus?
But I do want to see what all the fuss is about and if I could write a blockbuster someday!
I found the writing style to be easy and humorous and filled with important statements about life.
It is an important read for anyone.
