The boy thought this was a grand opportunity to play a trick on the old man. If the master answered "dead", it would be let loose into the air. If the master answered "alive", he would simply wring its neck.
The master spoke, "The answer is in your hands".
everything we do in life.. is in our hands.. it is ours to make the choice.. circumstances might be out of our hands.. but how we take them.. how we deal with them.. is the freedom we can enjoy or forsake..
We all love these zen stories, and the profound precepts within them.. each one holding a lesson within it's folds.. and the more I read them.. trying to look within the peaceful smiles of the masters.. I realize how simple their meaning.. every story translating into one message.. just.. to 'BE'.... in a moment..you can find more zen stories at http://muskorzahir.blogspot.com/search/label/zen%20alight
