The Mermaid Chair By Sue Monk Kidd

I am about to finish this novel and even though I had to be at work this morning at 7:30 I stayed up until 11:00 PM trying to get it done. A definite page turner.

The Mermaid Chair written by Sue Monk Kidd tells the tale of 40 year old Jessie and the call that changed the hum drum of her everyday life. As she journeys back to her childhood home she tries to rekindle and save the relationship she has let fade away with her elderly mother. Along the way she looses sight of what is most important while she falls in love with a Benedictine Monk.

Absolutely one of the best novels I have ever read. Sue Monk Kidd weaves her tale with a poetic air leaving you almost breathless at the majesty of some of her passages.

I definitely recommend this novel to anyone and hope you will enjoy it as much as I have.

I have not. The only other one I am know of is her debut novel "The Secret Life of Bees"

I liked this book okay, but I loved her "Secret Life of Bees" . I was somewhat disappointed by this book expecting the flow of her first novel. I have a ton of other books to read and will put Sue Monk Kidd on the back burner until I get through some of the other books I really want to read. This book was a fun, light read for what it was, but it wasn't totally my cup of tea as you ladies have spoke of. I have seen the Lifetime movie version of this and it left a better impression on me. Still, like I said, an okay light read.
