On a quiet and sticky summer night
When sleep is elusive,
An unexpected breeze
Wafts across my sweat dampened body,
Prodding me from my bed
And I think of you.
As I wander with no real purpose
Through unlighted rooms
And out the back door
To settle with a weary thump
on the top step,
I gaze at the moon
And again, I think of you.
Glancing up at the sky
I catch sight of a falling star.
Closing my eyes tightly
I wish----------not for you,
But for a nice cold can of beer.

The ending caught me by surprise too, but did give me a huge smile!
THANK YOU! I needed that today bigtime.
My only thought would be to shorten the first two verses and combine them into one - the lead up is wonderful, but a tad too long.
Great poem and a fun read too:)
Cheers to nice thought !! oh time to verse Shelbia !!!
Happy Halloween. Hope you have a great weekend.
