Join me on a tour of Aegina which is one of the islands in the Saronic Gulf. Aegina is only an hour trip from Piraeus by the regular ferry and 30 minutes with the hydrofoil.

While on the deck of our ferry I was watching the beauty in front of me.

Isn't " she sweet" ??? just in case.....

We were almost in the harbour of Aegina and I was looking out of the window. The pristine waters whose colors range from aqua to dark blue. I love the sea; it cleanses the soul and as my friend Vijay Kumar ( our Indian poet here in gather) once told me: " the waves are born to cleanse the soil. The song of the sea is to cleanse the mind. The deep blue body is to make one thoughtful"

Outside the monastery Agios Nektarios I was watching the hill in front of me and was told by a native that some people used to live in these small houses alone during periods of meditation.

The monastery of Agios Nektarios was built around 1904. Agios Nektarios lived in the monastery for 13 years and after his death, he was buried there in a marble grave outside the church, right under the shade of a pine tree.. The saint is said to hold miraculous healing power, so I prayed for all those I know in need.

The interior of the church. For those who are familiar with orthodox churches and for those who aren't!

Later in the afternoon, we went and visited the NUNNERY OF AGIOS MINAS which is found close to the ancient temple of Afaia in the woods.

The people of this island have always been involved with the sea : either as fishermen, sailors or shipbuilders. Some are also farmers and they grow olives, pistacho nuts and fruits. I loved watching the old fishing boats

A walk along the harbour with houses painted in beautiful colors, traditional cafes and stone-paved streets.

Would you like to have a yacht? I prefer the fishing boat

According to mythology, Aegina was a beautiful young lady with whom Zeus fell in love with. In order to be alone with her, he took her to this uninhabited island in that time.

In the harbour you are greeted by the small white church of St. Nicholas

Waiting for the ship to come I was having a last look at the harbour and was thinking how small but beautiful my country is. If I am thinking well we are half the population of NY. WOW ! Now while writing about I feel like a ladybug taking a rest on one of Granny Janny's beautiful sunflowers.
But no matter where you go in Greece you can see ancient ruins that have its ancient history to tell. This is the home of Troy, Ulysses, Socrates, Virgil, Homer and others.

The ferry ( Fivos) was approaching the harbor and we were ready to come back to Athens.

My brother took a photo of me while watching the beautiful sunset.

One last look.........

The ferry was near and so small under the sun.

No people on deck this time but beauty everywhere.

With my sister in law, deep in the ocean of silence and taking back with me all the beautiful moments spent in just one day.

Sending you love and joy to you and yours.
But thanks to this electronic box the distance seems non existing and if any of you will ever visit Athens I would be more than happy to accomodate you.
I just read your last article and my heart felt the love you share with others and I am so proud of meeting you Karen dear.
I am thankful to god that I never felt myself either superior or different form others. it was something that came with me inthis life span and I didn't have to work in order to become like this. I have friends from all over the world and this summer I was so happy to see a friend of mine from Denver Colorado whom I had to see for the last 7 years. She came to us and we had a really great time. She is a cancer survivor, although stage 4 in remission and for one more time we had so many things to share together.
The gift of sharing is something I treasure most Karen!
After being two weeks in Paris this summer , it was good to be back home and especially on this heaven small island.
You should come! you have traveled to so many places, so why not come to Greece as well.
The color of your eyes are like the deep blue of the Aegean.
One must be very patient and thank god it was Sunday!
take good care of Bob and be naughty sometimes!
We were quite naughty last night ... we had BIG bowls of chocolate ice cream!
Thessaloniki is in the North of Greece - about 6 hours by car from Athens which is in the South. It is indeed a very beautiful town and hope to see you soon.
Thank you
You do live in one of the most beautiful places in the world. The other night we were watching a special on the History Channel about Greece.
Where is your next trip? I am enjoying your essays very much. Just yesterday I checked and saw that Australia has a polpulation of 22 milion people. So little compared with the huge country!
love you both
The comment thread is also beautiful. You bring the light of Greece right into our hearts dear Marinela.
I will take you there and we will have a great time and will also take you to some other beautiful places.
Love and sunshine and have a nice week ahead
sorry I have just missed the " reply to this comment" staff
Wow , it will be so nice to have you here!
Sunsets, the elegant Nunnery, the church on the harbour, the lanterns hanging inside the Church....and a beautiful Marinela lost in thoughts of the Beauty of her world....!
Thank you so much, my dear Marinela, for this out-of-time, out-of-the mundane trip into your beautiful country !
I love the sea meshing into several shades of blue in the first few pictures.
Love to you ...
Love is the magic word and joy may be with you every moment
I most especially loved the photos you took of the wave wash of the deep blue sea, of the icons in a church, and of you, you gorgeous human being!
How are you? it seems I am like the sea waves; there are moments when I am in here and then back into my own world.....and feel ashamed not to share and not to see the beauty in each one of you.
love on the way
Just a beautiful place and you look quite nice and a bit fiery.
It was my brother's wife who wanted to pray and offer help to these churches and while waiting patiently I took these photos. What depresses me during the service is the byzantin music which is too sad for my own liking. For me god is joy!
But I do love the small white churches like the St Nicholas one - it gives a feeling of serenity and peace just by looking at it.
Thank you for being here
See my point by listening to this little Girl: you will hear her in Greek and English. She is an angel from heaven: Mariam Venizelou
I did not know we disagreed on anything, but I thought about this and realized you'd probably speak Greek when buying fresh fish, but here in Michigan there is no fresh fish, so I have no reason to speak Greek, but I do like the restaurants in Greektown in Detroit. I also don't like Feta cheese, but I heard that instead of buying a chocolate bunny at Easter, you buy a Feta cheese bunny. I prefer chocolate and you prefer cheese. Would you not agree or is this something upon which we can disagree?
Thank you for making me feel loved and missed and I missed you too.
By the way, you mentioned times for watercraft, but not how long it takes you to swim that distance.
Never swam till there, but I may try in future and let you know. I think I like your Sunday humor and I will certainly get used to it and will want more...what will you do then?
I found this in Wikipedia by typing in Yodel.

I like the idea of communication between mountain peaks and I do believe that everything speaks....and that we can listen beyond silence.
love and hugs
what are the sounds you make while taking a shower...according to you?
You are a real DODONI'S feta!
My favorite photos is the one of you relaxing on deck and, of course, the fishing boats.
The colors are marvelous.
