Ode to a Wise Dog: Three Pictures from Thailand

In the town of Kanchanaburi -- home of the famous Bridge on the River Kwai -- there are also cemeteries, museums, kayaks, and so on.  And there are, of course, dogs.  Below are three photographs dedicated the the wisdom of one such canine who, in the words of Kenny Rogers, knew when to "fold them," knew "when to walk away," knew "when to run."

Joel, that's a pretty good looking Thai dog. Most often, the ones I saw in that country were mangy, mangled, and limping. Very different from here in the States. The pictures show me that the cars have upgraded in the last twenty years, though. So, maybe the dogs have, too?

Maybe Joel has more current information, Janet H., but I never knew Thai people ate dogs! Bugs, lizards, snake, pork fat, chicken heads and feet, yeah, I tried most of those items, but never a dog.

These 3 photos are quite Disneyesque. With that expressive face on the dog, the film would be a hit ...one could almost expect to see a cat following the dog around on an adventure.

Loved that last picture. There's an attitude of confidence there.

I think Susan is right. I'm no expert on dogs, but I've never seen a Thai eat a dog. That's more common in places like Vietnam.

That's probably the cleanest dog I've seen in Thailand. And their fairly popular menu items here in southern China. Although in the wealthy neighborhoods they're starting to keep them as pets.
