The How's and Whys
Crystal clear life-giving rain
Forever falling from the sky's
Loving life swept down the drain
As we ponder, the how's and whys
How, Babies must drink water
Mothers know will make them die
The cup she hands son or daughter
To quench their dying cries
Brown murky death mixed with tears
The only cup she has to give
Realisation looms in all her fears
Her Brown- eyed baby will not live.
Sleep peacefully, little one
Cry no more he awaits you there
So short your time beneath the sun
Mankind just could not care.
He was too busy waging wars
To hear your tiny cries
Your life lost behind closed doors
As we ponder, the how's and whys.

Its so tough to be a part of that world , and so hard to realize and picture it sitting on other side of the world . and we ponder on how's and why's
Darcey.
Yes it is hard my friend , even though I sponsor two children in Africa, I still feel totally helpless, when it comes to this subject, thanks for you comment.
Darcey.
you are so right my friend and a very good description when you say "learned helplessness". I think most people believe the governments should be doing something about this and consider the problem much to large. However if each individual who can afford to sponsored one child, there would be no children dying in Africa or anywhere else in the world, from lack of water. I believe that's what we need to learn to do, is not depend on our heartless governments to fix the problem, and as individuals take the responsibility upon ourselves. In Ethiopia world vision has turned a dust bowl into an oasis, however this has taken over twenty years of death and poverty to happen. And now there are places like Darfur in Africa where it is much worse than Ethiopia was back then. Thank you for your comments Lynn, I hope you are well my friend, Take Care

I totally agree with you my friend, the fact that we pay a basket ball player fifty million dollars a year, that would just about supply safe drinking water to every child in Africa, is ridiculous. How much money can one person spend in a life! It just goes to show Amy, mankind cares more about a basketball game, than human life. Thanks for dropping by this morning, and thank you for your comments,
Darcey

Thanks for stopping by, How do you tell men that fight wars for oil and have no heart or conscience Bob. Darfur is one place in the world we need to fight a war. The atrocities that are happening over there right now are horrific. And as you mention this is a universal problem. I must believe there are a lot of good hearts in this world Bob, and I also hope all those good hearts together, can find a way to help these poor sad dying people. Thanks for your comments Bob I hope you are well my friend.

We can't change the whole world alone, but if everyone who could, would help just one child...

This is not really directed at George bush Janet, although he is one that comes to mind without understanding or compassion in his heart. Thanks for your comments.

Take care of yourself. Love to you all.
Thank you for your very kind comments my friend , that you think my poetry has improved means a lot to me. And it is so wrong as you say, the billions spent waging war. And as Amy mentioned the billions we pay sports stars could save hundreds of thousands of lives. And I agree my friend sadly it will get worse before it gets better.

Thank you for you very kind comments in regards to my poetic ability my friend. I am humbled by your words. And there is a lot if wisdom in your four words Lynn,''Knowing is a start'',. Like most people I was astounded at the amount of children dying and being exploited around the world , reported by the world visions latest reports. Thank you for your kind comments Lynn, I hope you and your family are well. take care my friend .
Darcey.
Thanks for stopping by and for you comments. You are so right when you say, '' Water should be a right not a privilege''. And the plight of the worlds children was the point of the poem. I just started to list the atrocities happening to 50 million children around the world , But I don't have two hours to write a comment that long, but you have inspired me to write an article concerning the facts. Thanks for your comments Anne Marie I hope you are well, Take care.

This will be my favorite poem of your poetry. It is so poignant. The photo is so striking with drama. Did you take it?

The massive amount of people in desperation today is 100 times worse than what it was a decade ago. Organisations like World Vision have created miracles from the limited finances and resources they have had to work with. But the state the world is in today there so many more people in need. The problems are far to great for them to handle. Sadly without Governments of the world doing something about this, it will only get worse. Thanks for stopping by Maria and for your comments, Take care.

World vision has a web site and are located all around the world. It's much harder for them to operate in countries you mention , like Darfur but they are there just the same. They do wonderful work Lynn, like in Ethiopia they turned it from a dust bowl to a paradise. They take a more hands on approach rather than just give financial assistance, They have helped farmers develop water sources, for clean drinking water. And have increased the yield of there crops by providing equipment training and seeds. Also planting millions of trees. They start vocational workshops to train people to increase their family income. And also help families start small businesses, and much more. Thanks for stopping by Lynn and for your kind concern about the terrible situations around the world. I hope you are well my friend. Take care.

I just finished reading "They Poured Fire On Us From The Sky" (read a preview at http://books.google.com/books?id=a1PZzLz1pY0C&dq=lost+boys+book&pg=PA3&ots=Qb9nP7Tsad&sig=bjvQqqc4ipo_fsmZJSxk6O4VQos&prev=http://www.google.com/search%3Fhl%3Den%26q%3Dlost%2Bboys%2Bbook&sa=X&oi=print&ct=result&cd=2#PPP1,M1 ) and I'm going to put a copy of your poem inside my copy. You should send it to the authors, it fits so well. Families in Africa are being torn apart and suffer untold agonies.
Thank you for your poignant insight and sharing.
I think of many of the words in your beautiful poem often. How sad to see those beautiful brown eyes starving - starving when here children are obese yet many malnourished - it is all so unbalanced. Your words speak volumes and awareness is the first step...I am glad there are organizations like World Vision - bless those who found their way there and are helping others...
thank you Darcey for the gift of your poem. Salud
