With all of the talented photgraphers here on Gather, I'm hoping to get some feedback and suggestions for a camera in addition to my Kodak DX7590.
I love my Kodak for everyday use, but lately I've found it can be limiting. It's easy to use, takes great shots for most things, and has a nice zoom lens (10x). However, the night pictures are not that great, and I can't take sports shots if it's inside unless I try to lighten them in photoshop.
I'd like to step up to a camera where I can attach a flash and use different lenses and filters (and yes, learn to use the fstop and light meter for manual shots).
I'm fond of Nikons, and I've looked at the new D80. I'm looking for feedback on the D80 vs. the D70 and personal experience with these cameras, good and bad. Any feedback on other Digital SLRs is also welcome. I have checked CNET and other sites, but I also like to get feedback from those whose work I can actually see.
I use my camera for all kinds of shots such as sports, night time, landscape, portrait and macro and the less complicated the better.
Any and all responses are appreciated!

Good luck, you are hereby challenged to share what you end up getting!

This site is one of the best I have identified for digital SLR reviews. There are many factors that can influence your choice in a digital head unit...including budget.
Therefore, I would begin identify the best equipment available below your maximum price point, and then use sites like the one above to help you narrow down your choices.
Good Luck!
Magi, there's a lot to read up on and the camera you purchase will depend on what type of pictures you want to take. In addition to Kevin's site here, you should also check out www.cnet.com
Kevin, thanks for reminding me about this site. I used it when I bought my Kodak and it proved most helpful!
Joseph, thanks for confirming what I had my eye on, the 18-200mm Nikkor lens. It's got the zoom I need and it's wide angle. I'm learning quite a bit from the internet, friends and helpful fellow gatherers like you. Thanks!
Barb, what are you looking for in a new camera and how much do you want to spend? You should also check cnet.com. They have reviews and customer ratings.
I checked out Kevin's link & will look at cnet.com.
We do alot of hiking and I'd love to be able to capture some of the beauty we've seen here in southern Indiana. My sisters are all camera savvy...I'm the only one that gets caught with a disposable camera...time to upgrade!
Good luck, have fun!!!
Thanks, d.m. I am just beginning to realize how costly being a photo buff is going to be...but it's going to be my 2007 indulgence. A little at a time like you said.
Shelly, the digital SLRs all have different features that will attract different people. I know Canon recently came out with the xTi but the D80 offered more features. I'm sure you'll find some Canon fans among the photographers here :).
