"Trump Card: Playing to Win in Work and Life" is Ivanka Trump's newest book on stands now. The American businesswoman, heiress, fashion model, and socialite was on Good Morning America this morning sharing insight and wisdom on how to succeed in the business world and life. The book is aimed at recent graduates and people entering the workforce; she hopes to come across like an older sister giving advise based on her experiences.
The book is called the "Trump Card" because Ivanka acknowledges in her book that she has been provided with options for opportunities based on her last name. It is admirable that she recognizes that she has been dealt an advantageous hand, but chose to use it instead of party is away--like other socialites in similar positions.
In Ivanka's "Trump Card" she details her childhood, growing up the daughter of Donald and Ivana Trump, and her rise to become vice president in the Trump Organization. She is coming at it with the perspective of a woman in business, and a successful one at that--not only is she the VP of Trump Organization, she recently started her own jewelry line, and modeled her way through high school and college--the Trump's would not provide "extra" money for her, in order for her to be able to go to dinner with friends she had to work for it. She shares her six recipes for success in "Trump Card."
Some people might think that she was born with a silver spoon, and she was; she does not deny it, however, she does not take it lightly and takes advantage of everything. Almost as if she has to prove herself over the next person just to show that she is deserving of where she is despite her last name.
I like Ivanka's honesty about the "Trump Card," do I think she would be a 28-year-old VP of Trump Organization if she was not a Trump? No I do not think she would, I do think she would be working her tail off to get there though. I am planning on reading her book, being a recent graduate and still very much in limbo about what exactly it is I want to do it will be nice to hear the experiences of someone not that far removed from me, someone with drive and determination to succeed despite their last name.
I think Ivanka is a positive role model for many women in business out there. Given the opportunity to learn and work with a great businessman like Donald Trump, wouldn't you take it? I would in a second. Don't judge her too harshly for taking milking her advantages.
