Mackenzie Phillips incest victim or liar?

Mackenzie Phillips claims to have had an incestuous relationship with her father, John Phillips for years.  It was consensual.  Here's my problem: She is a druggie and she chooses now after her father's death to make these allegations.  If it were true, why wait till after he is dead and can't defend himself?  Why make them at all?

Mackenzie Phillips wants to make some cash, and get some attention.  She did that by appearing on Oprah Winfrey, and she told her sorry tale.  This is not the first time she made this claim.  She made it before to her step mother, and then claimed it was a joke.

I have a hard time believing it.  I wish there were a way to prove it.  Perhaps, medical records because incest does happen but to those who are victims, it is not something to be made light of.

Carol, you are so judgmental. How do you think she feels by sharing this information? This is not something to take lightly and by you calling her a liar without even knowing her is something only a cold hearted individual can do.

Incest damages a person, especially in their mind. For her to actually address it is something she needs to do for her own sanity. She expressed it before and then proclaimed it a joke. Ever wonder why? Maybe because people like you made her retract it because they made her feel dirty for what her father did.

She is a victim. He was a predator.

Yes incest is horrible. Victims are scarred for life. But Bunny, why do you assume her story is true? Carol is judgmental you say, you aren't? You've already tried John and found him guilty. Mackenzie has always been a flake. Is it because her father did this to her? I don't know. I am glad I don't have to judge these things. A being more intelligent than us will do that.

incest is hard to live with and the truth NEVER comes out for years. I hope that she is lieing but know for a fact that when you first tell someone NO ONE believes you. it takes years for them to understand that it really happened.

It means that it is none of my business. My job is not to stop incest in other people's homes. I am responsible for my own home and family, not for anyone else's. There are people whose job it is to prevent (and detect) such things but, thank goodness, it isn't mine.

If she suffering (and I have no doubt that she is) then she has my sympathy, but there are lots of people whose lives I can affect that I am concerned with more than hers because I can do something about those closer people. I can do nothing for her.

So, Misty, before you condemn me I suggest that you find something better to do with your time that actually helps other people.

I think abuse is everybody's concern even if it does not directly affect you. The more it is brought to the public's attention, the more we can understand how widespread it is.

It is sad that people don't care unless there is a direct consequence to their life.

Yes, Bunny, it is sad. But there are a lot of things wrong in this world that I am trying to improve. I do what I can. For some specific tragedy to some specific person far away and not connected to me, all I can do is be sympathetic and try to prevent such things where I have influence.

Caring, by it self, doesn't do much good. Actions make a difference. I act when I can help. But I don't waste my time on things I cannot influence.

Me, I would also change the channel- unless something like this is a general topic, I usually wouldn't want to know. There are some exceptions.

Just because she was "of age" doesn't mean it was consensual. Parents have lots of power (real and imagined) over their children and he could have easily used that to make her THINK she was consenting and wanted to be in the relationship.

I am giving her the benefit of the doubt that it happened. I bet she didn't speak out before his death because a lot of victims of sexual abuse don't feel safe talking about it or getting help until their abuser is gone. Fits the abuse profile perfectly if you ask me!

If he was having sex with his daughter, he is in a special fiery place paying for that right now... and God will not have mercy on his soul... so, in my eyes, perfect justice is happening as I type this. I pray she will find a great therapist and God will be able to heal her from her past trauma!

Yes she is a druggie, but I think less of cell phone people that drive and use their cell phones. They are a lot worst than a druggie. I am not sure about all this. I am leaning toward her story.

You know some people have a hard time dealing with bad things. She may have waited til his death bcause of the fact she could not face him in real life. There has been cases such as this. And did you ever think she became a drug addict to deal with the incest. Not all druggies are liars. That is a cop out to even combine the two with each other.

This is not something I would ever judge someone on. Ever.

Oh good God Carol the whole lot of em were druggies ! Basically drug abuse is what killed John
I remember an interview with her step mom who at that time stated that MacKenzie was allowed to use drugs when she was 11.
So what kind of a parent /person allows a child to use cocaine ?
If anything can be taken from this it's that it is wise to not abuse these drugs ( anything stronger than pot)
