I'm getting a rare treat this weekend...I'm going to the movies. Things have been busy lately and, to be honest, I've gotten in the habit of waiting for the DVD. (And then I can watch it while I gather ; )
So, which of these movies would you recommend? I'm leaning toward Public Enemy, but I would like some feedback from those who may have seen some of these movies. Are they good? I don't like long movies...and I don't like boring movies. So, to give you an inkling about my tastes, "The English Patient" is one of the worst movies ever...I'm also not into Harry Potter and the Transformers aren't my type.
Feel free to make another suggestion if you've seen a great movie that isn't on this list. Here are the movies I'm considering:
The Proposal
This movie goes against everything feminist inside me, but I do like romantic comedies and I love Sandra Bullock. Kind of light...but that's okay.
The Ugly Truth
Another romantic comedy, with a plot line that reminds me of "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days."
Orphan
The trailers for this one are absolutely horrifying. The director also directed House of Wax.
In the Loop
I'll probably have to drive to the big city to see this one. I heard about it for the first time this afternoon on NPR. It's a satire about politicians and pr doctors.
Public Enemy
Johnny Depp as John Dillinger. Sounds good...
Up
I don't usually like animated movies, but this plot line sounds good: a 78-year-old former explorer ties balloons to his house to fulfill his dreams of exploring the mountains of South America. After lift-off, he discovers a child has hidden in his house to go along for the ride.
My Sister's Keeper
I know this story is sad (daughter born to help cure sister's leukemia seeks to be freed from family obligations and parents), but I love Abigail Breslin from "Little Miss Sunshine." I haven't read the book, but I loved "The Lovely Bones," to which this has been compared.
Any advice?

In a normal book, it would make you look at the point of view of 1 person, and maybe learn some things about the secondary people. In MSK, each chapter is done from a different person's POV, including history leading up to what happens, and what not.
She can really evoke your feelings of sympathy for everyone involved. I mean, the story IS about how Anna has always been her sister Kate's donor, and how she wants medical emancipation, so that she can say no. However, even as you realize that she was conceived primarly to be Kate's donor, her parents still love her, and want what is best for her. There isn't any 1 victim. Everyone has something going on that you can really feel for.
I've really heard the movie came across really well, but I'm curious as to how they handled the differing POV aspects of the movie.
Oh, and this weekend, "G Force" starts.....a Disney movie about some "wild" talking guinea pigs that try to take over the world.........this is a definite MUST for us....we have really seen a ton of movies this summer, but generally, I've been able to get free movie tickets from my refunding hobby!
I read My Sisters Keeper, did not see the movie though, the book did not end the way I thought it would and I was totally shocked. If you see it, let me know what you think cause I do want to see the movie since I read the book.
I liked the bucket list but the ending was a little unexpected.
Orphan looks too much like the movie The Bad Seed.
The only problem with UP is that sometimes animated movies on the big screen give me a headache. Am I the only one who has this problem?
I finally saw Monsters vs Aliens at our cheap theater....it was quite funny, but I"m glad I only payed $1.25 to see it.
want to see : Orphan, The Ugly Truth
not sure about: In the Loop or My Sister's Keeper
So, of the three you've seen, which one do you think would be best for me? Have you seen other ones that you would recommend?
Therefore, sorry, I haven't seen any of these movies.
Just wanted to stop by and say hi and thanks for the sweet comment earlier..I really miss my Gather time and all my friends here too, but life is hectic, unfortunately..just haven't had the time. I hope to get back into it eventually though. :O)
