I would take my husband and daughter to Arizona to see my sister. There's no one I'd rather spend time on the road with than my husband and nine year old daughter. I haven't seen my oldest sister in years so I'd love to go see her. Besides I was born in Arizona and never been there!

My son is a fun travel companion and an excellent driver so he would be my choice to travel with. Destination? I've always wanted to see Charleston and Savannah, maybe even travel up to Ashville.

I would probably say my sister. She and I have such a close bond and get along like we are best friends. We usually find fun no matter where we are. She is also a positive influence in my life. We've taken road trips before and always have a blast! We have this plan to one day hit the open road and go to all the tourist attractions we come across along the way!!! If we had the opportunity to just take a road trip, we'd probably drive across the country stopping at all the attractions as we go! It's always fun not have a set plan and discovering something new!

I would kidnap my friend Jeannie and drive from here in the NYC metro area to Seattle, stopping at every kitchy tourist attraction along the way and existing entirely on "road food".

I would take my husband and my pets. (Traveling with 6 cats and 3 dogs might be troublesome, so we will need help)
I would invite a witch or an angel along to make sure everything went smoothly.
I would also like someone used to trucking long distance. She would keep us from getting lost.
And I want Dean Koontz or Janet Evanovich - my favorite authors to keep me entertained.
And I want jay Leno. We all need to laugh sometimes and he seems like a cat person.

Maybe it's too obvious of an answer but I would take my kids. Growing up I have so many fond memories of traveling around California with my grandparents and sometimes my Mom. We saw so many California missions, beaches, etc. I want to do that for my own children but times are tough and I just don't have the money to take my kids anywhere. we're trying to plan a beach trip next month but it all depends on how many articles I can write at AC and how much my Mom and best friend can come up with.

I want to go on a road trip with my kids, to show them the wonder of other places. To grow together closer as a family. To make priceless memories that they will reminder as adults. I want them to do the same things with their kids that they did when they were kids. I want them to have those memories as I do and I want those memories with my kids to think on when they're all grown and gone.

I'd grab my kids or my sister and head out to see Santa Fe again - and a foodie's trip to California. Second choice would be heading down to see the sights in Key West - checking out the famous roaming chickens - and, of course, the food.

If you could take a trip on the open road, who would you take with you, and where would you drive to?

This is EASY! I would relive my childhood road trips that I took with my parents and siblings! Every Spring Break (from 3rd grade until I graduated), we would get home from school. The car would already be packed, we would hop in and drive off! Never knowing where we were going or when we would get there! We had SO much fun and it's something I will remember forever! We saw SO many wonderful things, landmarks, country and more! There were times we would come to a split in the road and flip a coin to see which way we would go!

As a result I've been to 38 states!

I would LOVE to be able to do that with my husband and kids just ONCE! It's a wonderful learning and bonding experience! There are so many wonderful things and places to see that way.

By not knowing exactly where you are going makes it an adventure!

That's an easy one! My room mate would be my driver, as I don't drive, and we would go back to Detroit where we are from with our kitten Smokey whom we abducted from the streets of Detroit on our last visit home! He was remarkably good on the loong road trip from Detroit to his new home in Phoenix and everyone is dying to see him again not to mention the fact that I miss my family and wasn't able to make it home for Christmas.

I would take my mom and my sister. We would drive from Michigan to California. In the early years of the Great Depression, my young grandmother and her new husband drove this route to find work in California and live with his family. They eventually returned to Michigan and had five children before Grandpa died in a firefighting accident. Grandma is gone now, but her stories of that trip and her time in California have lived on in my imagination. I'd like to write a chronicle of this trip, but feel I need to experience it before I can do it justice. My mom and my sister seldom travel and this would be a wonderful spiritual journey for us to share.

I would take my wife Kim on an adventure to Montana, and on up to Alaska. Before we were married, we would load up my truck and take off, no particular destination in mind, camping along the way. Just "head out" until we ran out of vacation time, LOL. I/we miss doing that, and we talk about it at times. I want to see Montana and Alaska before I die... ;-)

I often take an open road trip and usually I bring a change of clothes for several days as well as several days food and water depending on how long I will be gone. I always take more water than I ever use because I travel a lot in the desert.

My kids and Jason would no doubt be my road trip companions. We would go everywhere! Forget theme parks. We would visit all of the museums, natural landmarks and sites all over the country. Teaching them about the history of our country would be important. Showing them (and experiencing) different cultures and all the different people that make up this country would be so much fun. I would love to take them to New York City, Washington DC, the beaches in California, The mountains, canyons, valleys, forests and everything else the country has to offer.

I would take my husband and our best friends of 30 years (forever friends) from the start of Rt. 66 to the end in one of their classic cars. All four of us have wanted to do that since we were 'kids' and I couldn't think of anyone else we'd rather spend a roadtrip with than them.

I would take my husband and drive throughout the country, from California to Maine and back. Ever since we immigrated to America, my parents had always wanted to drive across America. They fulfilled their dream a couple of years ago with a month, a rented van and 5 of their friends. I share in their dream and would love to see all of my adopted country and be in all 50 states. Of course my husband would be a wonderful travel companion and we would have stories to share well into our elderly years.

If I could take a road trip anywhere, I would pack my husband and kids into the van, and we'd drive across the country. I want to see so many things in the US, and want the kids to as well- Mount Rushmore, the Grand Canyon, the Everglades, the beaches of the Atlantic ocean and the Pacific ocean. Coast to coast, up and down- all over the US. I want to see the Sequioa forests in California, the streets of New Orleans, the Saint Louis Arch, the Statue of Liberty, the Nation's Capitol building, Mann's Chinese Theater, the Liberty Bell,

America is so rich with history, and I want to be able to show my kids that, first hand.

I wouldn't have an intended destination. I just want to drive and stop at whatever looks fun, interesting, or entertaining. It would be the best way to find those "hidden gems" like charming towns, the tastiest unheard of restaurants, and those fun spots that are just perfect for OUR family.

I would take my husband and we would Travel the Mother Road, visiting all the unique places along LEGENDARY ROUTE 66.

Since route 66 is one of the essential icons of America. It would be a dream come true to follow the remnants of the road from Chicago to Los Angeles.

We woulod take the offramp into a bygone era, discovering the 2,400 miles of Route 66 and we would see how America traveled in the 1920's-60's.

We would visit the wonderful old trading posts, filling stations, motels, tourist traps, diners and villages along the scenic "Mother Road".

We would slow down and enjoy the scents of new mown hay and hickory smoke drifting from the pit barbeque chimneys.

We would stop and stroll through villages which I hear haven't changed since they were bypassed by the interstate highway decades ago.

We would sample a real American hamburger and a rich, creamy malt that taste the way they're supposed to.

We would experience 'Sky City' where native Americans live exactly like they have for hundreds of years.

We would pull over along a deserted stretch in the Mojave and just listen to the hum of millions of wheels that have passed this way bwefore while snuggling with my honey.

If you could take a trip on the open road, who would you take with you, and where would you drive to?

Ah, windows rolled down, the Beatles bursting from our radio and my camera ready to snap photos, as we travel on my road adventure with my husband. We would chat, laugh and watch the changing landscape as we drove to Maine. Years ago when I was in college I attended a master's class at The Maine Photographic workshop. Since then I've dreamed of traveling to Maine with my husband and sharing with him the gorgeous scenery and the smell of the ocean. If we're lucky we would see a pod of whales. On our way back we would chat about what we witnessed on our road trip.

I would love to travel out West with my husband, daughter, and my friends Bill and Cindy. We would travel in an RV so we could take the cats with us, and we'd make a long summer vacation out of it. We'd stop at lots of state parks along the way, and also hit up any music or greek festivals that were going on. We'd stay in Yellowstone for a while, and also the Grand Canyon. We wouldn't stop until we hit the West coast! What a fun trip that would be!

A trip anywhere on the road? I would go to the California coast with my wife and two kids just to enjoy a California Sunset on the beach. Just being able to take that long of a drive, hanging out with my family, seeing all the country has to offer along the way, and jamming to some great tunes would be the vacation for me. :)

"If you could take a trip on the open road, who would you take with you, and where would you drive to?"

This is actually a fairly easy question for me because I am doing this over the summer. My husband children and I are taking a road trip. Although we don't have all the details finished yet we are trying to go to places we have not been before but will most likely stop at a few places we have been to. We are starting at our home in Maryland and heading to Nashville. We love country music so we plan on checking out the Grand Old Opry and a few other spots in Nashville. The we will be heading to San Antonio to check out the Alamo and the River Walk from there we will head north possibly Amarillo ,TX then towards Oceanside, CA where we will be spending two weeks with friends of ours and checking out the San Diego area. When we leave there we will head to San Francisco. We have to check out Alcatraz. Heading back towards home we have not decided on all our stops but one will be Deadwood South Dakota and also Mt Rushmore in South Dakota. After that the way back is places we have been to but I think another stop in Canton, Ohio to see the Football Hall of Fame again will be a good idea. We are really looking forward to this trip!

I think I'd like to go on a road trip with just my father. He and I have never been on a road trip together, and actually, I haven't spent all that much time with just him. Dad and I could have a good time driving from Michigan to Rhoade Island, where my brother is currently stationed (Navy). I've never been up the East Coast...

I know most people would like to take their husbands and/or kids, but not me. Hubby and I can't go on a long road trip without almost killing each other. We argue about who is going to drive when, where to stop, and the navigation. By the time we get to our destination, we're usally so angry with each other that we're not speaking.

As for the kids, I take them everywhere. My kids ride in a vehicle for long distances about every summer. We drive from Georgia to Michigan about once a year. They ride well and they don't mind the rides. They keep themselves entertained fairly well also. The kids and I have had a lot of fun on trips, so this would be nothing new.

I LOVE road trips. When my kids were growing up, every summer we would hit the road for 2-3 weeks driving all around the west. Sometimes, we flew to the East coast, Florida or Hawaii and rented a car to drive around.

Right now, I would take my 2 grandsons along. Jacob is 9 and a big helper and Liam will be 6 next week and is a big entertainer. He would keep us laughing along the road. Plus they are both good travelers.

I used to have a NINE month road trip planned where I would have a small van and drive around the entire United States. Since we couldn't be gone that long, I would drive them across Montana so they could see where I was born. Then we would go to the Mid West so I could show them where my adopted dad was born in Wisconsin in 1883. We'd head to the East coast then so they could visit New York City, Boston and New England. Then we'd head south to Disneyworld.

At this point, my daughter would be getting frantic for them to be back home so we would come back across the US, stopping to meet a few Gather friends in Tennessee and Texas. We'd have to go through Colorado as it is so beautiful with a quick glimpse of Old Faithful in Wyoming.

I left out the West coast as I've already traveled some in that area with my grandkids.

If you could take a trip on the open road, who would you take with you, and where would you drive to?

I would take Tony Timpone (editor of Fangoria) and Jamie Lee Curtis. Two of my favorite people outside of my family. I would pick Tony's brains the whole way (no, not with a ice-pick either) about all his experiences within the horror world, and Jamie Lee Curtis just because she is a wonderful role model. I would want to go to Akermann's grave and pay my last respects and also hit a few other gravesites and give my respects to those who have given the horror world a boost to where it is today.

I would go with my husband and we would rent a motor home and drive around the western states - he was raised in Southern California but I have only visited there (his parents' home) once and I would like to see the places he has always visited through his eyes and with his commentary. It would be time together which we don't get much of with his job - he works for the government and does programming for his boss who asks a lot of him sometimes, more than he can do in the 40 hours a week he gets paid to work. We get to talk and converse when we travel and that is when we have more real time together so I would really love some "road time" with my best male friend and husband.

I am from the east coast and when I was a child we camped our way across the country in a tent stopping when we reached Oregon, as my parents loved the green open space and fresh air. I would like to travel through all of the states camping with my husband until we reach New York.

I would take my husband because he has a great sense of direction and I would travel to California. My husband spent 15 years there when he returned from Vietnam and I would love for him to share his life with me from when he lived there. Good luck to everyone!

What a dream come true this would be. I'd definitely take my husband. We love trips together. I'd make a bee line for the Atlantic coast and go north all the way to Canada, stopping in Pennsylvania, which would necessitate a slight detour and then through New York state and definitely travel through Maine. Cross Canada and come back down into Washington state and head east. Try to see Mount Rushmore. The Great Lakes. And go back to Cape Cod. I'd just go east to west and west to east across the states until we'd seen them all. Plus the Atlantic Ocean. While on the west side, I'd go back to Santa Fe and see the chapel with the stairs. In Oklahoma I'd have to stop and meet a friend and see a chapel there. In Arkansas there is a place called Eureka Springs. In Alabama there is a place I'd like to see. And all of Florida definitely. Wow. This would take a fortune. But it would definitely be a dream vacation.

I would pack up my daughter and wife into a motorhome and hit with road with no plans. We would wonder around the country from coast to coast taking in all the country's national monuments, state and national parks and just enjoy the diversity and natural beauty of this great country.

If I could take a trip on the road. I would take with me my Mother. My Mother and I weren’t close when I was a child. I was put in a foster home at the age of 16. I should have been placed in foster care at about the age of 8 but back then people overlooked what others were doing to their kids. At the time I hated her and I think she hated me. For years all I wanted was a Mother that loved me that wanted to spend time with me.
But about 12 years ago we reunited and now she is my Best Friend. We had our problems but today you couldn't break the two of us apart. I don't know what I will do if something happens to her. I will have lost the best friend I have ever had.
We would take to the open road and travel West and look at all the wonders of the World that we could find. We would spend nights camping and days walking trails and just enjoying the beauty of the world. And enjoying each other’s company. We would be free of everyday hassles to the get the job done and the rush rush attitude that this world has. We would be free to be ourselves. Now if I could find that someone had deposited enough money into my bank account so I could take this long overdue trip. If I don’t go soon it might be too late. … Let me go so I can plan this trip!

I would take my husband and my dog, Rocky. After all, Rocky is our kid and must be included, too. We have been unable to go on a vacation for over 15 years. And we haven't been anywhere for over 5 years other than necessity local trips. It would just be great to hit the open highway and leave all of our troubles behind for awhile.

I would take my daughter, granddaughter and son-in-law to Redondo Beach, California. I was out there in 1961 and loved it. I would like to visit the beach and fishing piers and see how much it has changed. This would also give my granddaughter new sights to see and remember.

No question about it, it would be my hubby, because he also has a GREAT sense of direction, and I get lost in my own neighborhood! I'd love to take a road trip from Texas to the western coast of Florida, driving along the southern coast of Louisiana, and stay where all those pretty white beaches are in a big old camper for a few days, then drive to the Florida Keys and stay in the KOA campground on Fiesta Key, an extension of Marathon Key. (A GREAT campground, by the way, with wonderful people who manage it! We had a fantastic time when we stayed there a number of years ago!) Driving from Texas to Florida would be a fantastic road trip, although the last time we started out in Orlando and picked up the rental camper there and drove to the Keys... What a fun trip! One I hope we do again, only from Texas this time!

I would take my husband. My dream is to buy an RV and spend a year (or two) roaming the US. I'd take the dog and my ferrets, too, of course, since there would be plenty of room in the RV. We would overnight in the Walmart parking lot. I could go from city to city, visiting other ferret owners, checking out estate sales and going to local festivals. It would be so nice not to have a schedule, and it would be great to spend time with my husband talking about something other than home repair or bills.

I would love to travel the East Coast in the Autumn! Not to hot, not to cold. I've seen beautiful pictures of the amazing scenary there, I think it would be a great expierance! We would stop in all the big Cities, New York, DC, Boston, and then all the small harbor towns too!

This is my long time dream:

I would buy a motor home, travel all throughout the United States. I want to see all the major tourist spots: the Grand Tetons, the Grand Canyon, Devils Tomb, Mount Rushmore, the Great Smokey Mountains, the deserts of Arizona. I want to have seafood in Maine, Florida and California. I want to talk to the people. I want to live for a month or two in each spot I pick. Or if I really like it there, I want to stay in one place for six months or even a year.

I want to make a journal of the places I saw, and more importantly, the people I meet. I want to find out of the way places, quirky places, quiet places, pretty places. I want to travel the road most traveled, and the road less traveled. I want to learn from people of all walks of life, and I want to teach them what I know.

I would like to take with me someone who is spiritual, like Robert Fulghum. He has an interesting take on life. And of course, I would take my soul mate, my husband.

I've always wanted to take a cross country road trip. I'd love to someday own an RV and do so. As to who I'd take along, I'd take hubby and our 2 dogs. Possibly my sister and her family too if there was enough room. I'd want to drive from NJ to California and stop for awhile in Minnesota to visit family and friends there. Then I'd just like to randomly stop all over the country to see various sights.

Okay, for this question I am going to totally suspend my disbelief and reality in general and assume I can indeed take whoever I want to wherever I want in that I actually have the money do do so and everything. (LOL) First, I would rent some ginormous vehicle that would hold my entire family, because that's who I would take with me - me, my husband, our two kids, my mom, my dad, my sister and her husband. That answers that question. Now, where would we go? Well, my favorite trips were the ones where you got out a map, chose a way, and went it. You get to see all sorts of things! So we would just drive across the country and see everything along the way. No particular destination in mind. No particular sight to see. Nothing. Just take the interstate and drive, stopping at cool things along the way. (This is how we saw a building made out of corn out in Idaho or somewhere like that when I was a kid! Or how we ended up picnicking in the van beside a random river! LOL) Somewhere in all that traveling I would hope we would wind up in Florida at the Everglades, because I've always wanted to see them. And eventually we'd make it to the Grand Canyon because I want to see it too. My trip would be an adventure! And there would be a bunch of picnics! I love picnics.

I would, of course, travel with my husband and now driving teenager (two drivers) and our ultimate destination would be Washington state, but we would travel from home in Georgia across the southern states so I could at least see them all the way, especially Texas and I'd love to see Arizona, then at California, turn north and when we got to Oregon, I'd stop and see Faith, then go on to Washington. When I'm done there, we'd take the Northern route back home with a stop at Shannons' in Michigan for dinner at least, then as soon as we hit I-75, head straight south till we were once again home. It would be a wonderful trip for us all as we'd get to visit a lot of states and some wonderful friends too.

If I could take a road trip anywhere I wanted I would take my honey and we would rent a travel trailer all packed up with everything we needed. First head to Florida to see my Son. Up to South Carolina to see my grandaughter and her mom.
Next would be my gather friends, that I really want to meet in person, Lynn A in Tennessee, up to Washington State to see Wilma M and those adorable grandchildren of hers. Hooking back on and heading to Pennsylvania to see Sheila H.
Probably a few others while I was on the Oregon coast.
Probably just a pipedream. But never know what can happen in life.

Okay, here is what I would do:

First of all I would check take all of my vacation accrued and pack up the car and head out the door with all of the family. Obviously we would take some others with us, albeit not in person as they would come with us in our CD player and DVD player for the long haul. Then we would do something that I have always thought would be an excellent adventure (props to Bill & Ted here :)) PCH, that is what we would do, but we wouldn't just ride up the coast, we would live up the coast, stopping in many small town, on many viewing spots to admire the majesty of the Pacific Coast and the joy of the small town atmosphere (we'd probably find ourselves a few favorite restaurants along the way as well). We would definitely make a stop in Redwood, I've always wanted to see a tree that is bigger around at the trunk than my house (who wouldn't want to see that, not scary at all :)) Then, once we finally reached the top of the country, then we would take off to the east and ride along the upper reaches of the country, hitting the vast open spaces that are rarely seen by people. We'd probably stop at a ranch or two along the way and re-enact City Slickers, just for fun (we might even take Billy Crystal along with us in our DVD player :)). Once we finally reached the East coast we'd make too many stops to mention as we all love the history of the U.S.A. and there is so much to see in this regard there. Then, heading south we would make a stop in D.C. to check out all the dead presidents and their statues and quotes (I love me some dead presidents :)) Eventually we would end up down in south Florida, which is where we would probably run out of gas (not the car kind, the travelling kind) and this is where our road trip would end, at least until we decided to go somewhere else!

I love road trips. I would love to get in a the car with my closest friends (yes, I would leave my hubby and my daughter home and have a girls road trip). I would probably head north towards NY and stop and see JoAnn and Kim on the way. Of course any of my other gather buddies that wanted to meet me too.

Road trips are the best. When I was younger I would just get in the car and drive until we decided to turn around and come home. (You can only go so far when you're ditching school) Some days we would head to the beach and other days we would go east to see some of my guy friends.

I would take my children to see my grandfather, who is dying from leukemia, and also suffers from Alzheimer's. Money is tight, and we have not been able to travel to see him since July of 2008. It is my wish and my oldest daughter's wish to be able to see him at least one more time before he passes.
My grandfather was a big part of my life growing up. My mom's father was killed when she was 15, so Grandpa Moore was the only grandfather that I had, and he more than made up for me only having one. It kills me to be so far away from him in his final days, and I would give anything to be able to go and see him again.

It's startling that you would ask this. I've been feeling a bit melancholy and was thinking about my mom (died in 2005) and was thinking about how it would be really great to go on a trip with her...she loved to travel, and there were so many things she wanted to see and do, but got too sick.

If I could go on the open road with my mom, we would go the places we always thought about going...I'd love to see that monument to Crazy Horse in South Dakota, I've never seen the Mall of America in Minnesota, and I've never been to Washington or Oregon. My mom would love to see Montana, I was in Missoula once and told her about it. I would also love to take her to Hawaii, though that would take a serious side trip on an airplane to get there. I would just enjoy the time with her and seeing things in each others' eyes.

If you could take a trip on the open road, who would you take with you, and where would you drive to?

If I could take a trip on the open road, I would take my Mom and my Dad with me in my big SUV. We would drive out west first to visit all of my relatives on my Father's side of the family. We would stop in El Paso first to visit some good friends there. We would go from there at a time in the day when we could catch the sun rise as we drove from Texas through New Mexico. We would drive through and head up to Sedona, Arizona and visit some friends there and in Flagstaff then head down to Tucson and then Phoenix to visit more friends. We would more or less stay on this trail as we would want to be close to a military hospital lest one of my two parents get sick on the road. (This could very well be their last trip ever) We would then head west to San Diego to visit friends and family in La Joya and then up to Orange County to visit more relatives and all over the Los Angeles area. Stay there a few days and then head up to the San Francisco area to visit my cousin who lives near Golden Gate Park where her and her husband are award winning designers who I can pick up a tip or two. We would go up to visit the vineyards as my cousin and his wife live in Glen Ellen and a cousin has a restaurant in Los Gatos, California. We would continue on our trek north as our final destination before returning to Texas is Seattle, Washington. Hopefully every one's health would continue on a good path and we could continue this trek through Nevada, Utah and Montana on the way home. Stopping to see all of the sites all along the way. Colorado and back to Texas and down to the gulf coast to see the ocean and back home to Dallas for a big rest.

I think that it would be a trip that could be easily accomplished in three weeks and with not too many expenses as we would be staying with relatives or friends for at least more than half of the trip.

Thanks for the opportunity to be considered for the prize.

There's something about the idea of a road trip that makes us feel happy and free. The unlimited freedom of the open road is so enticing. I picture riding in a classic convertible with some old rock & roll playing.
I love taking trips with my husband, but it might be really fun to go with my sister, my daughter and my nieces. We wouldn't be Girls Gone Wild, but I know we'd have a lot of laughs. Well, maybe a little bit wild...
I think we'd have to plan multiple destinations. Historic Williamsburg, VA, for my sister and me and some place more hip and active for the young'uns. I'm ready to start packing!

I would take my husband , daughter and son. My husband had heart surgery last week and made me realize how presious life is. I could have so easily have lost him. My daughter because she is 20 and looking at getting married so I wont have very many vacations left with her. My son because what is a family vacation without an 8 year old. I don't think I have ever thought so much about life and mortality as I have this week and anytime I can spend with my family will be a wonderful time. We would go to Gulf shores Alabama. We love it there it is our families favorite place. It take about 18 hours to get there from Kansas but it is so worth it to us. We love the drive and the time together.

I'm assuming that this chance to take to the open road means someone is funding it, right?

I would dearly love to take a road trip to Grants Pass, Oregon to see my Mother-In-Law (whom I have not yet met).
My Husband would be the main driver, I would fill in as needed.
We had planned on taking the most scenic road routes that we could find within our time limits for our honeymoon which would have been last July 7th, but with limited funding, we postponed it for Christmas. Well when Christmas rolled around needless to say we still did not have the money to go. So, our trip was once again postponed till the God only knows.

Thank you, for the chance to win a movie, God Bless.

We actually do take long road trips about once a year. It's a lot cheaper than flying out of our small airport. So I would take my husband, my son, and my pets. We always go to Missouri (from North Dakota) to visit our family. It's fun. Next time we go home, we're seriously considering taking another relatively short trip from there to this place in Texas.
