I would love nothing more than to review all these wonderful artists for Gather!
If I had to pick one artist though my top pick would have to be Enya . . . My very first favorite song was Enya's "Sail Away" as a child. I would sing her songs constantly and still listen to her today! She is wonderful and just soothes away any stress with her voice. She's just angelic!
Seal would be my second pick. His music is very emotional and heartfelt as well. I remember falling in love with him the moment his song, "Kiss From The Rose" came out on the Batman soundtrack. I am completely in awe of his ballads!
I am not as familiar with Missy Higgins unfortunately, which would make reviewing her fabulous b/c it would be an unbiased opinion! I know that I would love her, having just now looked at her website! I think her music/sound would be right in line with what I'm currently listening to!
I love music for many different reasons. Some of my fondest memories are tied into a particular song, C.D., or artist I was listening to at the time.
Plus, I have written quite a few music reviews in my days professionally.
I would love to review the Enya And Winter Came... CD
I would love to hear the Seal and Enya albums, I already love the artists and know they put out good songs but I would love to open my eyes to some new gems before anyone else does. I know their music new will inspire me!
I love music. When I used to do freelance work for the entertainment section of one newspaper, I used to do a lot of music reviews and band profiles. It was always great getting the chance to connect with different genres of music, and I discovered some fantastic groups that I would not otherwise have come across.
Music is the soundtrack to our lives, but most of us do not exist within simply one genre. We live our lives to an eclectic mix that paints our every movement.
I love Enya, because her music is very special and it just make me relax. It is great music to listen to when there is some decision to make , it just make you really relaxed.
Hmm, why I like Seal? I like his music because I feel like there is some story in each of his song, there is something special behind his music.
My boys and I love to play loud music and dance around together. We also love listening to music while we are making puzzles are doing crafts, and Enya has actually been one of the artists that I listened to the most while I was pregnant with both of my boys.
I can't go a day without popping in a favorite cd!
I love Enya, and I would love the opportunity to review her CD. And I am a big fan of Seal, and would be honored to review his CD too! Both Enya and Seal have music that brings me serenity and nostalgic thoughts, as well as blooms in poetry in my mind!
All our friends are music fans - a couple even have stacks of CDs occupying every square inch of the garage turned music room.
Seal can sing his way through anything, but this new take on old classics is sure to be a great CD to listen to...and review!
I've heard of these three musicians but other than hearing them on tv I haven't had the chance to listen to them yet but am very interested because when I've heard them on tv they sounded wonderful.
I have a variety of different cd's and I love to use my ubeat fast paced music when I workout, the slower more soothing types of music is great for relaxation and then I have some cd's that are nice to listen to when you just want to take a walk around town.
One of my favorite cd's is my Sound of Music soundtrack with nature sounds I love listening to it when I want to relax.
In college I had a lot of musician friends, and regular jam sessions at my house. Today I still enjoy music - I continually try to expose myself to new and different music, and I still love going to hear live music!
I would happily write a review for any of these CD's.
Seal: I've heard some of the songs from this CD on You-tube and they are incredible! Seal has such an amazing voice, and his maturity really shines through in these songs.
Missy Higgins: I've never heard of her before now, and I always love to be exposed to new artists.
Enya: I would LOVE to review this CD. I have always been entranced by Enya, her voice is simply magical to me. I can seriously get lost in her music.
Thanks Gather for another great contest!
I still have a record player and from time to time I listen to my old 33 and 45 records just for the sound of a particular song. I also have an 8 track player that I still listen too. I would never part with my CD player though. Music has come a long way since the 60"s in terms of sound quality.
At an early age I learned that music can calm the angered heart. Music has always given me much pleasure and relaxes me in a way that nothing else can do. I enjoy a variety of kinds of music from LDS Gospel, Country, Instrumental, Bluegrass, Oldies, Rock N Roll and most kinds in between. My mood sets the stage for the kind of music I will be listening to at the time.
I love music. I love the way it can take me to a better place when I am feeling down.
My hubby listens to music 24/7 he put so many songs on his blackberry and now when he cleans the house, he puts his earphone from his blackberry in and cleans away. It would be so much nicer to have something for both of us to listen to and not just him. ;o)
I haven't heard of any of these musicians (or maybe I have I just don't know the names of them) I would love to review Missy Higgins and Enya.
Thanks!
Love it!
Want it!
Gotta Have it!
I've been part of the industry on and off for the past 30 years and would love to be a candidate for reviewing music. Presently involved with a myriad of genres and loving it.
I would like to review Seals CD!!
That would be awesome!
I have all of Enya's CDs and would LOVE to review this latest!
i guess everyone loves music. Well are you mad for it? Let just say my musical taste is a bouillabaisse of taste from cajun to classical. I can honestly say. If it stinks i will say it and if i feel its the greatest platter since bread was made,i will get on my high horse and preach about it.
I go by my instinct. can't explain that really but all i can say is i want this thanks
As a writer, music can often set the mood for a scene I'm working on. Sometimes I make playlists related to scenes in the novels or that remind me of certain characters. As an artist, music also can influence what one creates with whatever medium they are working with.
I'd love to review the Enya CD. I've always loved her voice. So pretty so magical. I never even knew she had a new CD out! I don't really have any Christmas CDs to listen to, either, so this would be a great one to have in my collection. The only Christmas album I have is Mariah Carey's and I no longer listen to her, lol.
Thanks for giving us the opportunity to review these CDs!
I have heard from music from Seal before and liked it, I have heard music from Enya before, and I like it. Missy Higgins I haven't heard of, but am willing to listen to it and offer up my opinion of it.
Music is a vital part of my life.
Thank you for the chance.
SEAL is probably my all time favorite artist right now and I'd die and go to heaven if I could have his new CD.
Enya is also a favorite of mine and I would love to review her CD.
I've been doing book reviews for HarperCollins for the past year and I've done a movie review too, so I definitely have the experience to handle this. You wouldn't be disappointed in my work.
I am especially fond of singer/ songwriter recordings, new music etc: All genres.
Any one of the CD's you are giving away would be an excellent addition to my collection.
I would be honored to review any of the above artists, as I am not very familiar with any of their work.

As a word-nerd and info-geek, this opportunity intrigues me. I happily accept your challenge.
I am finding that I now love music of all kinds.
I am exploring all kinds at youtube.......and I spend hours there every day.
I would like either Enya or Missy Higgins...
I love Enya's music. It digs deep into my soul. This CD is on my Christmas wish list but I would love to enjoy it before and during the holidays.
Music soothes me, it helps heal me....
I once worked for Capitol Records in Quality Control....
Music I feel is sometime the best medicine there is when needed.
I truely love Seal and all his works, been a fan for over 10 yrs, my favorite is the Rose song, and Enya is a smoothing type of music, and Only time was played at my wedding , 6 yrs ago. I would be honer to listen and review these albums, and any album in the future.
I have a long and storied musical background. Much to my mother's chagrin, I began playing drums shortly after l mastered sitting up, the pots and pans were no longer her sole dominion. It was also around this time that I took up singing. Sinatra, Bennett, who ever was playing on the stereo, I sang along. Didn't matter if I knew the words, or sang a different tune, I did it my way, too.
I was surrounded by music and music became education as well as recreation. My grandmother was a pianist, trained at the Boston Conservatory, even played Carnegie Hall, but her favourite was Boogie Woogie, she could make the ivory and ebony dance. My other grandparents had a grand piano in the living room at the ranch, every once in a while my grandfather would dig out some sheet music from the bench and play a few show tunes. My mother was the back-up organist at church ... all those keyboarders hanging in the family tree, you knew a piano would find it's way into the house. And it did. Which meant I would start lessons at six. Three years, but my fingers just didn't want to learn, but the rest of me learned. Eyes learned the notes and staff, and my ears learned the chords and scales, the fingers would have to wait.
My fingers would get their turn at ten, as well as lips and tongue, lessons on the piano would be traded in for the horn. Trumpet came easily and was followed quickly by the rest of the brass. Woodwinds and their reeds were more challenging, plus there was that second and left handful of keys. But at twelve, my fingers would find their true musical love, again playing chords and scales, not on ivory, but on gut! The guitar was the instrument my fingers long searched to find, and yet much of their happiness on the fretboard was founded in the lessons of those early years of keyboard frustrations.
Music is a part of me, part biological, part environmental, and part instructional.
Oh by the way, my ears would be most interested in listening to Seal's
new album but any of them or all three of them would be very good too.
My preference would be for Enya's CD (I'm most familiar with her and have two of her other CDs to compare the new one), but I would welcome the opportunity to review any of them.
My background as a reviewer is fairly extensive: my fiction review blog was started in September of 2008 and has readers all over the world (Nearly nothing but novels: fiction and crime fiction book reviews), but I've also published in an on-line magazine (Blogcritics magazine) and had a book review syndicated by the Chicago Sun Times. I have incorporated author interviews into my blog and have at times built an extensive background of comments, photos and links to help readers understand and visualize the settings of novels, especially for "world fiction." In my blog, you'll often find me discussing the music used as soundtracks to certain novels, including those by George Pelecanos.
My musical training and experience is significant, though I'm not a professional: I'm a semi-pro guitar player (with two music lenses on Squidoo, Guitar Lessons for Kids to Adults, Playing, Gear and Semi-Pro Gigging and Women Guitar Players) and was trained on the cello through High School. I'm currently trying to learn Motown bass lines (on the bass guitar), I play with my guitar-prodigy son whenever possible, and I sing lustily, but poorly, to accompany my acoustic guitar strumming. I'm also an avid concert-goer, with jazz, blues, rock and classical music being my favorite genres; I also like some country music but am very particular and stay away from "commercial country music." I've heard many of the top musicians play and sing in the US and the UK, from Chicago blues to Opera. I've followed up my interest in music by reading biographies and autobiographies of significant musical figures, including (and ranging through) Miles Davis, Al Kooper and Levon Helm, and have also read criticism by Greil Marcus, Gerald Early, and the New Yorker writers.
Although I have written about fiction and the arts in the past year, most of my writing during that time has been on the environment, primarily at Chemistry for a sustainable world. Much of my environmental writing has been syndicated via BlogBurst.com.
So, I offer considerable experience as an amateur writer and some real knowledge of pop music, inside and out. I even performed in the warm-up band for The Fabulous Motown Revue at St. Louis' famed Pageant venue. I think you'll enjoy my review, and so will many others.
Thanks for the opportunity!
Back to the subject at hand I would have to say that I have always appreciated all types of music and keep an open mind for everything that I hear. The latest discovery that I have found and it is thanks to an e-mail and also Terry is the four men of a classical style on old standards and classics and also classical and do it in 4 different languages and that is IL Divo. Check them out if you will, their voices and their style are incredible in a "4 Tenors" way.
It is the heartbeat of my life. Without music I would not be me.
I cannot imagine walking down a street without K-OS - Crabbuckit playing.
Or running without listening to Bad A** By Crystal Method.
Or Guitar Hero III without playing Evenflow by Pearl Jam.
If I have not listed to music for a week, I feel great sadness and sometime cannot comprehend why. Then I remember, I NEED my music. I relax like a cat in the sun, or get energized by the beats playing. Either way, music is my motivation.
I would love to review the Enya CD, they have always brought peace to my ears and some steamy nights in bed. :P
The best music reviews come from listeners who heard the music and really felt something. A meaningful connection was made between artist and listener; the music was the means and the artist is the one who made it happen. The reviewer's job is to capture that thing that happened, then describe what it was and how the artist did it.
The reviewer is on the receiving end of that meaningful connection. As a result, most reviews describe what it's like to be a listener, so the review ultimately becomes more about the reviewer than the music, or the artist who created it. The vast majority of music reviews are just so much first-person, gatekeeper-style punditry. To really touch the reader, the reviewer must avoid doing that, but the catch is that it's agonizingly hard work to avoid doing that.
I discovered Enya when she released Shepherd Moons years ago, and that album had the feel of the soundtrack of my life. From The sadness of "Evacuee" to the triumphant "Book of Days," and "How Can I Keep From Singing"it stirred something in me, beyond compare with any other music. I later sought out "Watermark" and "The Memory of Trees" and though they did not move me as much as the first, I found it all very soothing. But only if I wanted it to soothe... which is the beauty of her music. If you want to be inspired, it inspires.
I would love to have the opportunity to listen to, and to review "And Winter Came." The title alone is intriguing, and I have a feeling it might just be the thing to make winter feel a bit warmer.
thanks
Music is best listened to in the silence-where one hears nothing, that is the best music around. One just has to listen. So i think i would make a great Music Reviewer.
I think I would be a perfect choice to help review these cd's and give a truely unbiased opinion. Thanks for the opportunity!
