This past weekend, my friends and I decided to go to a movie. It took quite a while for us to decide on what to see, and we finally settled on "Be Kind Rewind" with Jack Black, Mos Def and Danny Glover.
All I can really say is "sigh."
This movie was extremely disappointing. I expected it to be hilarious, and while there were funny points, they tried to throw in some feel-good, sad stuff, and kept bringing up things that they never resolved (the owner of a rival video store, for example, knew Mos Def's character (Mike) as "Little Mikey" but Mike had NO idea who the guy was. They never got into how he knew Mike...).
Now, I went into this moving knowing that, while I love Mos Def, Jack Black always plays the exact same character - a quirky, crazy guy who thinks he's the s**t - and that is just old by now. He needs to expand his reptoire and try something new. Typecasting is all well and good when you first get started, but I'm sick of seeing him do the same thing over and over.
My favorite part of this movie was a 5-second stunt involving camouflage (you'll get it if you see the movie).
I am so glad that I had a free coupon to see this movie. I'm so sad that it was such a disappointment!
