So, it's official Whoppi Goldberg is the new moderator of the ABC coffee clatch "The View." Now that the worst kept secret in broadcasting has been revealed, what can we make of Barbara Walter's executive decision? Inspired? -- no. Controversial? -- no. A post-Rosie stroke of genius -- no. A Band-aid solution to a severed limb? -- bingo.
Rosie O'Donnell, for all her bluster and self-promotion, brought an energy and edge to "The View" that it never had before. It morphed from a politically correct suburban tea room into an independent java joint. Right or wrong, Rosie set a challenging agenda, and the rest of the gals went along for the ride. Only Joy Behar proved up to the test. Barbara remains an insufferable bore with her passive-aggressive thing. Then there's Elisabeth -- dear Elisabeth Hasselbeck. So shrill, so self-important, so predictable. Of course she and Rosie hated each other -- it was also the only reason to watch.
Now Whoppi gets her shot in the moderator's chair, and I feel kind of bad for her. She's a talented lady but in a world weary, sadder but wiser way. You can't get much more layed back than Whoppi, and if you're a social moderate you're going to pretty much agree with everything she says. That might make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, but it's not going to make for great television.
So, nice going Barabra -- but I think your going to need a bigger band-aid.

No fan of Elisabeth Hasselbeck's, I was disappointed that although Elisabeth and Rosie bonded and became good friends in spite of their political differences and because of shared personal issues, the day of the smack down, Rosie was way out of line. She insisted Elisabeth should have taken her side when she was criticized for some passionate statements and when Elisabeth maintained that this was Rosie's responsibility, to clarify her own positions, Rosie insulted her, once, twice, and so on. Rosie said that she was angry because the conservative pundits praise Elisabeth and vilify her (self.) She seemed determined to make Elisabeth pay. Elisabeth didn't take it passively. For the record, Rosie is still going around turning pictures of Elisabeth into devils, according to reports and photos from a recent R-cruise.
I think you are right about Barbie Doll impressionist Elisabeth Hasselbeck; can't think of many people that make me want to puke so much....
Passive/agressive Barbara Wa wa? Ugghh, yeah.... Damaged baggage from being 'the first' woman to break the million $ barrier in broadcasting.....time, and events, have taken their toll on dear Barbara. Anyonw else thin she should just retire and find a life b4 hers is totally over?
Oh well,,,,,such is life..... Rosie is a hard act to follow; and that was all so weird, I doubt the show will recover. And Ms. Star's weight thingee?? OMG, she lied and lies aobut it....and now coming out about the surgery? Its all too weird...
Thanks for the chance to vent that tho....
