Evan Almighty - Movie Review

Last night my family got to see a preview of Evan Almighty.

 Evan Almighty stars Steve Carell as Evan Baxter, a role he had in the original Bruce Almighty (though I don't remember him). Evan is a former newscaster that has just recently won a seat to the United States Congress. Leaving New York behind, Evan shuffles his family - wife played by a wonderful Lauren Graham and 3 sons - to Northern Virginia.

God (Morgan Freeman) calls Evan to build an Ark and prepare for the flood. His family isn't sure what to do. They aren't sure if Evan is having a break down, a mid-life crisis, or if God really commands Evan to build an ark. Animals coming two by two make for some hilarious comedy.

 Other actors in this movie include John Goodman (Congressman Long), John Michael Higgens (Marty), Wanda Sykes (Rita), and Molly Shannon (Eve Adams)...

The cast is great, and the movie was well worth my time. With only a PG rating, there is nothing objectionable. This movie is great for the whole family. My daughter and her friend laughed though the whole movie, as did my husband (who didn't even want to come). There is typical "potty" humor, which makes sense considering all of the animals and birds.

Evan Almighty is definately NOT Bruce Almighty. I personally didn't care for Bruce Almighty (and I dislike Jim Carrey), but Evan Almighty was funny. You don't need to see the first one to enjoy and like the second one.

 Evan Almighty comes out June 22.

I am looking forward to this one. Were you aware that this is a "green" production? It is supposedly totally enviornmentally friendly. I too disliked the first since I find Jim Carey just annoying. By the way, Evan was the newscaster in Bruce Almighty that Bruce caused to talk in gibberish during his newscast.

I like a good mindless funny movie once in a while.
While I'm not a huge Steve Carell fan, I'll prolly rent this when it hits DVD. I enjoyed Bruce almighty, so I hope it lives up to the first movie.

I'll 75 cents for admission (cheap theater on Tuesdays), but I try to get free passes to previews, when I can.

Morgan Freeman, of course, is in a class all by himself. I think his performance in "The Shawshank Redemption" is one of the best performances by any actor of our time.

It sounds like a good movie. We dont view movies with over a PG13 rating in our home. They are just not up to our standards. I may consider this movie since it is PG

Often people that do reviews on gather never tell what the rating is. I guess they think that all adults will view Rated R movies. That is just not the case with us.

There are no kids in our home and we still keep our dish blocked from showing anything over a PG 13 rating. We just dont want to even be surfing the channnels and see something that is objectable.

From what I understand from the preview, some Christian groups endorsed this one. There is no bad language, sex, or violence.

I personally LOVED Bruce Almighty so I'm not sure if it is good that this isn't like it or not. But even though I don't recognize most of the names in the cast (besides Morgan Freeman) sounds like a fun movie.
