The world's most famous, and most pampered, dog Rexxx gets separated from his owner (via plane accident) and ends up a mascot in a ready-to-be closed fire station. Rexxx helps a 12 yr. old and his fire chief dad turn the fire station in to the city's finest.
Josh Hutcherson (played in RV) plays the 12 yr. old and does a great job as a troubled pre-teen that is having a difficult time with his uncle's death. Bruce Greenwood plays his father and the new fire chief. He also has questions about his brother's death and is actively infestigating a string of suspicious fires.
I took my 10 yr. old daughter to see this movie last week. It was at the second run theater, so the cost was minimal ($1.25/ticket). I would imagine that Firehouse Dog will be coming to DVD soon.
Honestly, the movie is no academy award winner, but it was cute fun at 111 minutes. There was nothing objectionable, and I think the PG rating was due to some of the doggy jokes (I don't want to give it away). This would be a good movie to rent for a boy's party, as the humor would get them rolling on the floor laughing. I admit I laughed a few times....my daughter loved it.
