Man Keeps close eye on bridge, offers help to those in despair
Chen Si (Nanjing, China) has been a self-appointed guard on the Nanjing Bridge over the Yangtze River for four years. By his account, he has saved 144 lives. Chen says that "in a time of crisis, all people really need is one person willing to lend a hand."

It's like the story of the boy throwing the starfish back into the sea. When asked what he was doing, he said he was saving them. The person watching the spectacle said, "But it isn't making a difference."
Throwing another one into the sea, he replied, "But I made a difference to that one."
