On this Good Friday, I watched some interviews on television where people on the street were asked about what Easter (Resurrection Sunday) meant to them. There was a broad spectrum of responses:
- Easter is the celebration of the resurrection of Christ.
- Easter was a pagan holiday stolen by the Christians.
- There may have been a Jesus, but he was not the Son of God.
- The resurrection was symbolic, not literal.
- It’s okay to only celebrate with chocolate bunnies and colored eggs because the story of Jesus rising from the dead isn’t true.
I’m not quick to judge people just because they don’t believe what I believe. There are reasons why people think what they think, and since humans have free will, we can believe whatever we want. God doesn’t force Himself on anyone because He wants the love for Him to be genuine. Therefore, I’m just going to say what I believe at leave it at that:
- Jesus died and rose again so that everyone can have the opportunity to be redeemed from sin.
- The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus actually happened. That is why it is called a miracle.
- If Jesus did not die for me, I would have been dead a long time ago.
- Christianity was never meant to be logical. It’s all about faith and belief, which is why the level of education or intelligence does not matter when it comes to spiritual matters.
- I don’t get into debates about the Bible because I do not believe that the Bible is debatable. It stands on its own. You either take it or leave it.
Jesus, I love you. Thank you, Lord, for your sacrifice. No human on earth was worthy to be the sacrifice because we all were born in sin. You came to this earth clothed in human flesh and allowed Yourself to be crucified because You loved us and wanted us to have the opportunity to have eternal life. I will be forever grateful for what You have done for me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
