I think they may have been spam accounts..I've seen pings from a few accounts like that, and then the member is no longer in existence.

These people have been banned by gather,for scam or other reasons.
You can delete the out of your friends list

People who delete their accounts, or have their accounts shut down have 0000-name-0000 listed as their names. People who scam people will show up SCAM-name-SCAM

Those are friends who have had their accounts closed. It doesn't always mean they're banned, though. I had a friend that chose to leave Gather on purpose and asked to have her account deleted. So, any comment or correspondence I had already gotten from her had those zeros before her name.
