Feeding you cat/dog vegetarian fare

I agree with you. I think that animals require the protein and such in meats. And then again, I wonder how they know how their pets want to be vegetarian???

I think we need to feed our pets what they need in their diet to stay healthy. I wouldn't mess around with their diet. I don't think they would be vegetarians in the wild.

Studies have been done by various parties, including such obviously biased entities as PETA, and the general consensus seems to be that dogs can be fed a vegetarian diet, but that it must be carefully managed to ensure that they get enough protein and calcium, and that it is not in any case a good idea for puppies.

There is good evidence that a vegetarian or vegan diet is a bad idea for cats, which as opposed to dogs (who are omnivores) are naturally primarily carnivorous.

Personally, I think it's a little ridiculous. It's one thing to make a personal ethical choice not to eat animals, but it's another thing to enforce that choice on another animal- one that can't tell you what they would choose. And since implementing the choice poorly can actually harm your animals, it's something any responsible pet owner needs to think carefully about.

Cats are natural carnivores and the best diet for them is actually a raw meat diet that has to be implimented in a very careful way. Cats should never be fed a vegetarian diet

I think they need meat; by nature and genetics they are meat eaters.

I think it is nuts. Animals need meat.....plain and simple.

Cats are pure carnivores. They cannot survive without meat. A vegetarian diet can cause numerous and serious health problems in cats.

Oh my that would be so bad for a cat no way that is getting stupid
In case anyone is interested a carnivore has it's eyes in the front of their heads LIke dogs and cats and us so on and so forth

I agree with what Jonathan said. Cats are carnivores and cannot be fed a vegan diet.

That just seems very silly to make them vegan too.

Goodness - our kitties would not like that one bit, they like a bit of our steak and raw meat and chicken and one of them likes fish - the other doesn't and prefers meat only. They like fancy feast .....
