I was just watching Rachael Ray and this author Beth Lisick is on the show promoting her new book, Helping Me Help Myself.
Basically, the premise of the book was, Beth's one year journey reading a new self-help book each month with a focus on a different aspect of her life. June for example, was focused on parenting. She spent one month, on health, one on finances, one on cooking, etc. The end result was her own book of tips and a reflection of her journey.
I think this is a great concept and I really like the idea of self help books, but some of them are just repetative and cliche. I found this author to be down-to-earth and actually said that she felt SELFISH, many times during the year that she had been focused soley on herself and then realized the only way she could better her family was to better herself. This helped her continue on her journey and writing her book.
Has any one read this book? What are your thoughts on self- help books? What self-help books have you read, if any?

I went and saw him and Archbishop Desmund Tutu at a really low point and came out enervated. I was given the book and it helped me deal, in a small part, with myself.
Most of the time these self help books are just bloody obvious things, but when you begin to doubt yourself you need someone else to affirm your thoughts.
