So I needed to get a copy of my marraige license and my old passport (which expired 3 years ago) to get my new passport. I am leaving August 31 for London. With all the new travel requirements for all U.S. citizens to have a passport for all border crossings, what usually takes 3 weeks is up to 3 months.
For the summer travel season the government suspended the rule for Mexico and Canada border crossings back to valid photo id and birth certificate. When I was up in Buffalo a few weeks ago to get a copy of my marraige license the average cross time back into the U.S. from Canada was 2.5 hours!
So now I finally have all of my ducks in a row. I got my photos taken today. I have a copy of my airline ticket. My appointment for the same day passport service is tomorrow morning at 930 am. I am guessing I still won't get the actual passport in hand until about 330pm, just so I am late for work again!
I am glad I live in a city that offers same day service!

There are a few more in the mid-west. I think Denver also has the service!
I totally agree that the method to get a passport takes too long and requires too much time. I think it is important for all people who travel to have passports, but I think they should give us more than a year to do it!
