When do your children go back to school?

My summer is rapidly coming to an end! I start back to work for the local school district this Friday! (the 17th)  The kids come back on Tuesday August 21st. this year.  It seems school is starting earlier and earlier every year.  I remember the good old days back in MN when we went back to school the day after Labor Day!  We went to the MN State Fair and when it was finished for the season we knew it was time to return to school, and we were ready.  Out here in CA they always start early because of State laws.   I'm just wondering when are your kids starting back to school this year?

Here in South Florida they start on August 20th, unless they are in an allyear school.

August 27th is when they start back in our district.

No kids any longer. Granddaughter and grandson here in Napoleon start Friday the 17th. Our County Fair ends the 16th.

Granddaughters in Toledo, start on the twenty-eighth.

Grandsons in Bowling Green start the 21st. And grandson in Tech. College starts the 20th.

My brother goes back tomorrow, but I don't go back until the 27th.

Yeah, the summer seems short here in Missouri too. I start workshops tomorrow and kids come in on Monday. But with 104 temps today, my guess is that kids will generally happy to be in air conditioning all day. Good luck on the start of your year!

Wow Trudy, it sure is coming up quickly.

My daughters both start college on the 27th I think. My son starts school the same day. He's in high school.

We had an extra long summer this year. Our school district had gone to earlier and earlier start dates. We were starting the first week of August.

But the state leg decided to mandate start dates & not allow exemptions like they used to. So they had to wait until that last week of August. My son gained two or three weeks of lazy time from the deal.

My son in High School went back this past Monday. He is the last one to go; the others have graduated already.

I'm surprised about all the schools starting in early August. Here in Eastern Washington, school doesn't start until after Labor Day. In fact, the school district my grandkids attend is the last to start on Sept 6th. Wish they started in August!

I can hardly wait. Then I will be back to just having my 4 yr old grandson every day until 3 PM. HOORAY!

my two older ones start on the 29th of this month and my youngest starts sometime in september in a way i can not wait for them all to be in school and in a way i will miss them bugging me all day

My kids are all grown, but when they were little they started after Labor day like Trudy says in her article.

In the UK, school starts at different times, depending on where you live in the British Isles - anytime from 1-10 September. University terms start last week in September or first or second week of October.

I teach in upstate NY. Teachers go in for meetings Sept 4 and 5, kids start the 6th. Downside to that is we don't get out until nearly the end of June.

My son starts his senior year on Monday. My daughter starts seventh grade on Tuesday. I think they are ready for summer vacation to end.

It really sucks, but my youngest son (who spent the summer with me) nhad to go back August 8th. When I was in school, it was Sept. 9th.

I agree Walker. That sucked!! He did get out earlier than we woul have (in May I think) so he had the same amount of time off, but it still really really sucked.

Depends on county / district- whatever they call it. Some start Aug, some Sept. Some Oct. Some go all year round.

Aug 15 for our county and they let out around May 20

Some counties start in Sept, let out around May 20 and some start Sept and get out in June-July.

The start day for school is determined by each school district.Even within the district the start days vary.If you have magnet or charter schools in your district, they have different start days.I tell ya it can be confusing.I work as a part time receptionist at a school district office and when parents call to see when school starts I need to refer to the list before I can tell them the start date.My grandson went back on July 30th.His school is on a year round calender.Then there are also the different start dates for elementary,middle and high school.Certainly many changes since "my school days". North Ca.

When I was a kid we started in the end of August -- it was nice to get that 3 day weekend for Labor Day, and to be done in the end of May rather than the near middle of June. My daughter starts on Tuesday Sept 2. My son started last week at the Community College.
