Our squirrels are the fatest little things. I never in my life thought I ever write a story about squirrels. But over the past two years I have become even more good to the creatures living in my yard. We started to threw the stale bread at first, then we tossed the stale cereal, and anything you would think they would eat. To be honest, what was the difference...it I threw it in the pails, they just dumpster dived!
But it has now gotten to the point where I bring home my leftovers..for the squirrels. Boy does that piss off the dogs! I used to give it to our dogs, now the birds and squirrels and the stray cats get it. I try to rationalize with our doggies and explain to them that hey they get fed! They just look at me with that you meany look.
I have even gotten my friend to give me her popcorn after the movies, I myself buy the large one only eat a little of it...and the rest goes to them!!
I have gotten to know what cereals they like, and they love butter popcorn. The best part is when I toss out something they don't like- they come to my patio door and give me a look. Of course I feel guilty and look for something else. I guess in way I now how alot more "pets" than just Sadie and Baxter. The dogs are pissed...but hey...aren't we supposed to be in communion with nature!!

Hey! Yesterday there was a squirrel hanging onto my screen door. He looked like one of those "garfield" suction things you see on car windows. He was right in the center near the top. I scambled to get the camera but he jumped off before I could snap the pic. ahhhh...
Barb- Now as for the fattest!! I think ours is pretty huge...
Charles- I know my two doggies would love to catch them also. It pisses Sadie and Baxter off that we feed them! and we yell at the dogs to leave the squirrels alone!
Marilyn, my husband put peanut butter on bread and tossed it to them...and I made fun of him!! I guess it isn't so strange after all!..what tees me off is when he gives them my expensive granola bars!
They are so delightful to watch.. BUT, they are slowly driving our native, red squirrels (so pretty!) into extinction...
I wish they could co-exist - but that seems to be impossible. The red squirrels are being pushed further and further into the margins of these islands. In Scotland we've lost them from most of the Borders and the central belt - and in England I believe they are only found in areas like the Lake District. I believe that in Wales they are also becoming very, very scarce.
But they are cute. I will give you that.
