3) What did you wish you knew ahead of time?

4) What did you learn that you wouldn't have known until meeting in person?
A bit more about them and that you could actually get to love friends in person that you already loved in cybespace.

Yes....with all of them

I hosted a HawaiiBlast2007 event here on my island for cyberfoodie friends this past summer.
8) Did you meet one on one or in a group?
Both ways. I have met some in a group and some individually - just depends on the circumstances....
Once, during one of my visits to the mainland, I was scheduled to present a Tropical cooking class at a Miami cooking school and several members of my Cocina Cubana Internet group who lived in the area signed up and showed up at the class...that was fun!
9) Would you do it again?
Oh, yes!

I wish I knew there were so many head cases out there.
I wish I knew Bob was looking for love too.

8) Did you meet one on one or in a group?
In person
9) Would you do it again?
No need to. I found the love of my life.
10) Anything else to add?
People sometimes comment on how online dating is so bad. There are wacka doos.. yes, but every now and again you find someone who is looking for the same thing that you are looking for. You may have to kiss a few kermits first.. but it helps you figure out what type of person you are really looking for.
2) What was your worst experience? None

So far I have had all positive experiances. And I would do it again, if i have a hope of making more friends. To me this is a way of broading my horizons.
Although that is how my son met his new wife.
My friend Rex... it's a toss-up between the time he drove here from Kansas City to bring me a washing machine as a surprise... or the time he paid for my plane ticket back from Peru to be moved up so I could come back when I was really miserable there. Sadly, I think he's passed away as I have not had any word from him in over two years.
: (

Introduced two people over Yahoo Messenger who later got married. (And still are!)
6) Are you still real life friends with people you've met from the net?
Oh yes!
7) What activity do you pick to do when meeting someone?
Depends upon the weather. Beach if it's nice, bar or restaurant if it's not. Maybe a movie.
8) Did you meet one on one or in a group?
Both. Depending upon which instance you're referring to.
9) Would you do it again?
Absolutely.
10) Anything else to add?
Always be cautious when meeting strangers, especially if your "gut instinct" makes you leery. Your head and your heart will lie to you, but your gut rarely, if ever, does.
I've met some people through dating sites - some great first dates, but few seconds.
I do the best on Craig's list.
One man had some skin condition - couldn't deal with that.
I've gone to meals, movies, both. Once in a bar.
We've met one on one.
I have cyberfriends I've never met, and hope to when I have more time.
I had one person whine that I'd never have time for him with my schedule - and we were in the "platonic only" section of Craig's list
I keep trying, but he was right... I have little time.
Maybe for next summer vacation...
2) What was your worst experience? Couple of them but the worse was meeting a girl that I ended up having a relationshipw ith than found out she was a majot lunatic drug abuser who was just out for all that she could get. After I told her to beat it she even tried to get me in trouble with the law on charges she made up about me that were totally false.
3) What did you wish you knew ahead of time? That the above girl was the psycho she was but with Terry i wished to know nothing ahead of time because i wanted to learn all about her and still want to keep learning about her for the rest of my life.
4) What did you learn that you wouldn't have known until meeting in perdon? As terry said we didn't meet in perdon, hedck I don't even know where that is ;-) As for meeting in person I learned many things about her and I am still learning the many beautiful things that are in her heart. I for the above mentioned wackado on #2 I learned that looks aren't everything and that even the most ugy people on the inside and without make up somewhat on the outside also can look good for a short time.
5) What's the craziest thing you've done? fifth amendment invoked here! ;-)
6) Are you still real life friends with people you've met from the net? I found a best friend for life and that's what will always be. As for others that I met they were mostly if not all women and that would not go over well if I were still "friends" with them.
7) What activity do you pick to do when meeting someone? Dinner (my treat) with Terry it was the greatest ever, we talked until the place that we met closed and than like teenagers we went out and talked in her car for about three hours more. Oh wait Teenage couples don't "talk" in the car do they? Well we did a little bit of mild kissing only before we parted and when we did part I knew she was something special. Broke 4 other dates after that with other "internet matches"
8) Did you meet one on one or in a group? One on one, but in a public place.
9) Would you do it again? No need to!!
10) Anything else to add? That for all that want to try the internet dating thing or just meeting people just please be careful and make sure that you are protected. But on the other hand if you are careful and do it right you could end up meeting the love of your life! I know I did!
Just kidding! Did this "crazy guy" say that he was stuk in some African country or something like that and only you could help him out?
the old fashioned way... haha
2) What was your worst experience? I haven't had one YET.
3) What did you wish you knew ahead of time? I try to only meet people I know fairly well, and also have no preconceived notions.
4) What did you learn that you wouldn't have known until meeting in person? Body language adds a lot to conversation, so that often puts humor or general conversation into a different context. It has generally only added to a person's charm rather than diminish it in my experience.
5) What's the craziest thing you've done? After meeting my husband, I rode around with him and his best friend all night. They could have been lunatics. In general though, I'm not very crazy, and I try to be level headed about these sorts of things.
6) Are you still real life friends with people you've met from the net? Absolutely.
7) What activity do you pick to do when meeting someone? Something in public. Meeting for dinner or coffee. I do have to admit, I try to meet people who have a connection to someone else I have met. So, there is SOME kind of security.
8) Did you meet one on one or in a group? Both.
9) Would you do it again? Sure!
10) Anything else to add? There is always the risk that someone isn't going to be who they say they are, and that does worry me. You can't live in a bubble though.
I haven't had one yet.
2) What was your worst experience?
Thinking I was meeting my future husband and found something else.
3) What did you wish you knew ahead of time? People lie on the internet
4) What did you learn that you wouldn't have known until meeting in perdon?
That he lied about everything he had told me.
5) What's the craziest thing you've done?
I believed him.
6) Are you still real life friends with people you've met from the net?
not in this life.
7) What activity do you pick to do when meeting someone?
Coffee shop and chat
8) Did you meet one on one or in a group?
one on one
9) Would you do it again?
hahahahahahahahahahahaha no
10) Anything else to add?
I have discovered that people you meet through this machine are truthful and above board if friendship is all that is required. The big problem with love matches, most are out for other things and not a future with someone.
Do I sound pessimistic??????? Well, hard knocks can do that to a person, but I have met some fantastic people here in Gather and I feel blessed. Anyone for coffee??

From the people you've actually met from the net (if you have):
1) What was your best experience?
My ex-wife, naturally. We met in the new-age forum in CompuServe in the early nineties.
Dated ( virtually ) for almost a year before we met face-to-face, then dated ' for reals ' as people around here are want to say. Got married, settled down, and had a beautiful child, who I had the blessing to raise until the third grade. Some of the happiest years of my life.
2) What was your worst experience?
Ditto, as after her eight months of hepatic coma ( One of the russian children we were trying so hard to adopt turned out to be a carrier for a virulent strain of Hepatitis A. She had nine near-death experiences and when she came out of it, decided she didn't want to be married anymore.
3) What did you wish you knew ahead of time?
That the little russian boy was a deadly carrier.
4) What did you learn that you wouldn't have known until meeting in person?
That she was capable of such a massive personality, character change.
5) What's the craziest thing you've done?
Bought, commissioned to be built a thirty-foot long, triple axel trailer, big enough to carry all my worldly possessions ( 700 sq. feet of furniture roughly 2,400 cubic feet ) and a 6.5 liter turbo-charged crew-cab Chevy to pull it when a friend offered me a place to rest. I lost over $ 50,000 US on that transaction and have yet to recover from the triple shock. To make matters worse another friend offered me still another place to recover from that, and then left me stranded in the middle of the vast American desert, where I remain.
6) Are you still real life friends with people you've met from the net?
Not real enough to save my A_ _ _ , I'm afraid.
7) What activity do you pick to do when meeting someone?
I like to camp, as in the tent variety in relatively primitive settings, The coastal woodlands for example.
8) Did you meet one on one or in a group?
Normally one on one.
9) Would you do it again?
It's really hard to answer that one right now, except to say- here I am again. I'm a romantic optimist at heart, and one who still believes in the sanctity of marriage.
10) Anything else to add?
Anybody out there need a perfectly good husband, father? Slightly used perhaps, but I'm a d_ _ _ Good man. A man is a terrible thing to waste!

2) What was your worst experience? The guy who was more interested in talking to another guy (about business no less) then talking to me but still tried to kiss me at the end of the night
3) What did you wish you knew ahead of time? Nothing - you just have to get to know people as best you can & meet in a public place
4) What did you learn that you wouldn't have known until meeting in perdon? Well people can sound smart over emails that they have had time to compose and in person, be a whole lot less so
5) What's the craziest thing you've done? I let one guy pic me up at home
6) Are you still real life friends with people you've met from the net? Yup
7) What activity do you pick to do when meeting someone? Drinks of some kind
8) Did you meet one on one or in a group? Most of them were dates - so 1 on 1
9) Would you do it again? Sure, if I wasn't married :)
10) Anything else to add? Nope
1) What was your best experience?
I finally got up and went to a paranormal meeting in 2005- It has helped me with my social aniexty
2) What was your worst experience?
I have been lucky, none yet
3) What did you wish you knew ahead of time?
???
4) What did you learn that you wouldn't have known until meeting in perdon?
The group leader was young enough to be my son
5) What's the craziest thing you've done?
gone into a graveyard at midnight
6) Are you still real life friends with people you've met from the net?
Yes, I met someone online in 2006- in Dec of 2006 we finally met in person. I have joined his group and we are all good friends. We have even gone on paranormal trips out of state.
7) What activity do you pick to do when meeting someone?
meet in diner/coffee shop
8) Did you meet one on one or in a group?
group
9) Would you do it again?
maybe
10) Anything else to add?
2) What was your worst experience? Haven't had one.
3) What did you wish you knew ahead of time? Nothing really.
4) What did you learn that you wouldn't have known until meeting in person? It was a lot more comfortable than I thought it would be, I was sorta expecting some awkward moments but there were none.
5) What's the craziest thing you've done? Go to a concert with a guy I'd never met before.
6) Are you still real life friends with people you've met from the net? Yes.
7) What activity do you pick to do when meeting someone? It depends on who the people are.
8) Did you meet one on one or in a group? Both.
9) Would you do it again? Yes.
10) Anything else to add? I just have to say that it's all about using your gut instinct and where you meet these people. If you don't think it'd be good to meet someone, then don't. Also I think it's much safer to meet people that you've met on sites like these or message boards with a purpose (for a band, a game, etc.) I think that when you meet people from random chatrooms it can become sketchy.
Some people I've talked to end up creeping me out!
Most of them were interesting and I had a enjoyable time chatting. On the average, they were just other lonely people trying to reach out to others.
2) What was your worst experience?
I have met a few that I won't meet again. Some of them I stayed friends with through the internet, which was much more comfortable. I have to say that I had a lot worse problems with people that my family or someone "hooked" me up with.
3) What did you wish you knew ahead of time?
By the act of talking through Yahoo messenger etc., I knew probably more about them then most. I never met someone that I hadn't talked to for quite a while.
4) What did you learn that you wouldn't have known until meeting in person?
Mostly what they really looked like.
5) What's the craziest thing you've done?
I assume this question relates to internet visits? Well, I had a girl friend at work that I regrettably told that I was having a first meeting with someone. She was sure the person was an axe murderer, so she rounded up a few others to go and spy on me to protect me. Right. I spent more time worrying that the goofs would show up then concentrating on the person I would meet. Never again.
6) Are you still real life friends with people you've met from the net?
Yes to some. We meet for lunch once in a while. Others no never again.
7) What activity do you pick to do when meeting someone?
I always do a first meeting at a public place. Casinos are good for that. Lots of people and security guards if you need them. Usually I just have coffee or a drink.
8) Did you meet one on one or in a group?
I have always met just one on one. I just think it is easier to learn about someone that way.
9) Would you do it again?
Sure.
10) Anything else to add?
I was very happy to read that some people have had really great experiences. For the most part, I enjoyed myself and never felt afraid or anything. There were a few I would not meet again because I knew we were not a match but some have stayed friends and I value their friendship.
I have to tell you that I worked with the public for many years and have a good sense about people and situations. I am not afraid of too many people nor does it bother me to tell someone to back off if necessary. I also don't give any my address to worry about strangers showing up in the night or something. If you don't process some of these skills, then I suggest you go for the group thing like church or other organizations.
1) What was your best experience? I've had a lot of pretty great experiences..lots of fun with people I've met online. I had a party for my 30th bday and invited a bunch of people I knew from online to come..never met any of them before that night and we had a blast! I'd probably have to say meeting my current sweetie is the best, so far.
2) What was your worst experience? I haven't had any really bad experiences, although I did meet my ex online in an AOL chat room and wasted 8 years of my life with the loser.. but even that wasn't all bad. I just shoulda left a lot sooner..but, live and learn, right! lol There have been a couple of people that I've found out eventually they were pretty much nutjobs after knowing them for a while .. but I was lucky that nothing bad ever happened as a result of knowing them. I've had the same thing happen with people I've met offline, so I don't hold that against the internet :O)
3) What did you wish you knew ahead of time? Nothing really. I pretty much knew what I was getting into, and most of the people I've met I've talked to for a while but really had no preconceived notions or expectations.. I just go into meeting people, no matter how well I think I know them, as if meeting anyone else for the first time. Although, one guy who used to hang out in the same AOL chat I met my ex in ended up a few years later killing his ex wife by putting a bomb wrapped as a Christmas present in her mailbox. Though, actually, we all kinda knew he was a weirdo, so noone was really surprised.
4) What did you learn that you wouldn't have known until meeting in perdon? hmm.. not much really. although some people, even if you've seen them in pictures, look totally different than what you expected in person..because they use older pictures or pics you can't tell what they really look like. Actually, I never would have known how sweet and generous and fun my sweetie is if we hadn't actually met and started dating. He's so sweet to me.
5) What's the craziest thing you've done? I haven't done anything that I'd consider crazy..although my definition of crazy may be a lot looser than some.. lol I guess it was kinda crazy that years ago the local AOL chat room I hung out in used to have get togethers all the time.. parties, meetings where we'd pick a restaurant and bunch of people would decide to meet up at the restaurant..and since Ididn't have a car I'd sometimes have one of the people going to the meeting come pick me up without knowing them at all.. It was pretty safe though because they were usually room regulars and we'd make the arrangements in the room, in public, so everyone going to the meeting knew he/she was the one fetching me ..so if I disappeared they woulda known who to go after.
6) Are you still real life friends with people you've met from the net? Yep, several of them. Some of the friendships drifted away over time..mostly due to the fact that my ex was a complete ass and not many people wanted to be around him, but others just kinda faded due to one circumstance or another.. but there are still a few I'm friends with, and I met my honey and we're still friends..and stuff.. and I actually met my current roommate online at roommates.com and that's working out fabulously, so far. He and I get along great!
7) What activity do you pick to do when meeting someone? At first it was always group things.. parties at a "roomies" house or a meetup somewhere for coffee, some I've had pick me up at home for dates and gone to dinner or drinks.
8) Did you meet one on one or in a group? both, depending on the situation.
9) Would you do it again? Sure!
10) Anything else to add? As with anything else, always be cautious and take precautions before meeting someone, especially if it's a date situation, make sure someeone knows who you're going with and where you're going and where they can be found if your body turns up in a ditch somewhere..but if you do it right and are smart, meeting people from online can be a great thing.
2) What was your worst experience? being called a troll when I am not one and never was one,, andd cant used my true feeling on points or I am label a troll
