I had to travel on business from Waynesboro to Elkton (Virginia) the other day, and decided to allow a lot of extra time so I could take back roads and photograph interesting barns (and some other things) that I found along the way.

On my journey I passed through New Hope, Port Republic and McGaheysville; these are photos of things I saw along the way, primarily great barns!

Jimmie, Virginia is so beautiful. So much farm land and great scenes I don't get to see very often. Your photos are beautiful. I love the cow crossing sign. So funny to me. I'm used to seeing deer crossing signs! Thanks for sharing this adventure. I'm glad you choose the backroads.

I love these! You have an eye for capturing simplicity in such a beautiful way. I was driivng through Ohio a few weeks ago and wished I had the time to stop and photograph some farmhouses and barns. They were like going back in time.

Kimberly.... I have wished for years that I could stop and photograph the barns... so, I have decided to do just that when I can. I just allow a lot of extra time, and take the road less traveled by. :D

I enjoyed all the rural pictures. It used to be you could tell a good farmer by his barn. It would be painted and in good shape, while the house his wife had to put up with was woeful to see.

Here's a lesson I learned on this trip: When you stop to shoot photos of a barn or whatever, be sure to pull all the way off the road. Those huge trucks that haul milk or fertilizer do not like having to slow down or stop for anyone or thing in the road!!

Beautiful pictures Jimmie! I love scenic drives like that. I've been trying to allow more time to venture off the beaten path lately too. Lot's of neat stuff to see that we never see cause we are too busy.

beautiful experience that you share with us. When I was traveling through Michigan and Up State, I was alwas impressed by those barns and thought I should take some photos and make paintings from them. They tell so many stories.

Looks like a wonderful trip! I have a small weakness for horses so those are my favorite pictures! heehee But really all of the pictures are just beautiful!
