These are signs of dehydration.
Many drink hot teas and coffee to 'warm up' during the winter months...nothing could be worse for you because caffeine is a natural diuretic (sp?) or dehydrator.
Drink plenty of soups with broth to warm up.
Another problem is setting the thermostat too high during the winter. HEaters tend to dehydrate the air in your home, compunding the problem. The best recommendation is to set the thermostat no higher than 65 degrees, and wear several layers of clothing or cover yourself with blankets/comforters/afghans. The less a difference in the outside temp vs the inside temp minimizes the shock your body experiences when you go in/out of your home.
Get a meter to measure the humidity in your home. The ideal humidity is 55%. An indicator is - how often do you have to water your plants....if they dry up faster in the winter, then - guess waht - the same thing is happening to your body! The moisture in your plants is evaporating from the heat - take a hint from your plants!
When it gets cold out, I often make my dinner a pair of packages of "oodles of noodles", just to assure my body is re-hydrated. I also tend to add seasonings like red curry, ginger, and onion bits. The spices clear my sinuses as I eat the hot soup, and I feel quite clear for the evening and sleep well at night (in my 65-degree home)
Try it! Ever since I adopted this measure, I have experienced only 2 serious bouts with 'colds' in the past 14 years, and that came from visiting at others' homes on vacation where the climate was not under my control.
Hope this does well for you too! It's amazing how little you need 'medicine' when you manage your hydration properly...and for goodness' sake, avoid alcohol and sodas at all costs! They dehydrate you rather than quench your thirst, which is why people can't seem to stop drinking them! They make you thirstier!
