Near our neighborhood, there is a small pond. In the summer, there are many ducks nesting there until they move south for the winter. So I call it the Duck Lake. This evening I made a trip there with my husband and fed bread crumbs to the fish and the ducks.

The ducks are very accustomed to residents feeding them. So when they saw us walking up, they all started to swim towards us.

My husband was throwing bread crumbs in the pond to the ducks. I was surprised that there were so few ducks. I guess some of them had an early start and left the pond already.

Two ducks were fighting for the bread crumb. Sometimes, the one who didn't get a piece would bite the one who did, just to "get even".

The ducks were watching the fish fighting for the bread crumbs in the lower left hand corner of the picture (which caused the ripples).

It was funny that the ducks seemed to be intimidated by the fish, because the fish were so aggressive when they were fighting for the bread crumbs. This duck just stayed there and watched the fish fight. She didn't even try to jump in. That was as close as the ducks ever got to the fish. And the reason this duck dared to be so close was that she was the biggest duck (in size) of the crowd.

My husband got mischievous and started to walk alongside the pond with the bread bag. The ripples were caused by the fish following him.

The fish followed the man with the bread in hand.

"Yay! I got a piece of bread!" said the duck who stuck her head in the water.

Feisty fish fighting for their food.

On the other side of the pond, there was a raised observation point. When Kyleigh was with us, that's as far as we would let her go. Where we were this evening was on the lower side, right next to the pond. It's too dangerous, and full of duck droppings too.

Too bad Kyleigh wasn't with us. She loved feeding ducks and watching them fight.
