Kyleigh's Story - Meeting the Relatives

I have a very small family on my side, but my husband is the opposite. Last weekend was the first time we took Kyleigh to visit my husband's grandparents, so there were many relatives to meet.

Kyleigh is shy, and she is not used to being approached and handled by a large group of people. So, not many relatives got to hold her without her started to fuss. However, she remembered her grandma. My mother-in-law visited us a few months ago and spent quite some time with Kyleigh then, so Kyleigh was very happy to see her again.

Everyone (at least those who showed up) met at the nursing home where my husband's grandparents were staying. We got some group pictures, but the most precious pictures are those with the great grandparents and Kyleigh. Kyleigh may not have any recollection of them when she grows up, but the pictures will tell the stories.

I just wish Kyleigh had a chance to meet my grandpa. My grandpa passed away in 2002. I have also never met my own great grandparents.

Sounds like all went well! 2 of my great grandparents passed away within the last 2 years! I was able to get pics with my great grandpa and my daughter I am sure will remember him since she is fixing to be 8! She was born on his 80th bday. He lived to be 87. He was a great great grandpa to 4 kids. My 3 and my brothers 1.

Gatherings that are large can be so overwhelming..not just for the kids..but I know for me as well. I'm anxious to see what x-mas is like this year. We have 3 little ones under 1 and a 2 yr old and a bunch of other young kids.It will be interesting to see what happens.

Sounds like a great visit! I've always been sorry that my kids did not get to meet my grandparents (who raised me). My grandmother would have really enjoyed them! So these kinds of visits mean a lot!

Sounds like a good visit. Meeting a lot of people at once can be overwhelming I can imagine, I know it was for me when I was younger.

Families used to live closely within a small area and did not travel much from the place where they were born but today with jobs and military life, people are dispursed to the four corners of the world and family gatherings or simple get-togethers are becoming rare. I was like Kyleigh in that I never met one grandmother, one great-grandfather and had little or no contact with most of my father's family. Those pictures will be wonderful for her to see when she is old enough to understand.

My daughter, who is now 24, never got to meet my parents either, and my son does not remember my mother and was only 5 when my father died. Their grandmother and grandfather on their father's side died within the last few years. At least they got to know them, though. Treasure these times.
