This weekend my husband and I took our baby daughter Kyleigh to our favorite hiking place, the Great Falls National Park, for a picnic. We normally go to the Maryland side, but my husband only got the directions to the Virginia side, so that's where we went.
Before we left the house, my mom put a hat for herself and Kyleigh, and gave me a hat to put on. My husband also gave his mom a hat. So Kyleigh was quite amused because everyone had a hat.
My husband and his mom packed the food and we got there around 10 AM. We fed Kyleigh in the car after we parked. We couldn't really hike like we normally would with Kyleigh, so we only walked the beginning of the trails and took some pictures at the lookout.
Many people brought their dogs to the park. We wanted Kyleigh to look at the dogs but we didn't want to be impolite and point at them, so Kyleigh missed most of them. She finally was able to see a big yellow dog, and she was really excited.
Kyleigh fell asleep while I was walking a trail, in the baby carrier I had on the front of me. She leaned her head on my chest and her mouth was open and pointing to the sky. She looked so funny and my mom took quite a few pictures of her sleeping on me.
We sat down at a picnic table and made ham sandwiches for lunch. I normally don't like tomatoes, but I try to eat them because of the nutritional value. My mother-in-law bought some yellow tomatoes just for me. She said they were less acidic and I might like them better. That was very nice of her.
When we were having lunch, we kept hearing the announcement about the activities at the Visitor Center. It turned out that they had a museum and a bookstore, and some kind of video tour. We had always gone to the Maryland side, so we never knew these existed. We went to the museum/bookstore after lunch, and the rangers were very friendly. We got a picture of Kyleigh with a deer's horn. She had no idea what we were laughing at, but we had fun.
Both Kyleigh and I fell asleep in the car on our way home.
