Please join me in congratulating Barb W. for winning a copy of Pennsylvania Wilds: Images from the Allegheny National Forest. Barb won the book in the random drawing held this afternoon.
I only wish I had 20 books so I could give one to each of the 20 writers who submitted essays, on very short notice I might add!
Step inside their stories and you’ll be transported to a world where beauty soothes the sadness of divorce, provides safe haven during a snowstorm, and sets six kids on a path they'll travel all their lives.
It's a world of damsels and dragonflies, snakes, wild pigs, and Winnie the Pooh. There are waterfalls and wildflowers, a desert where a woods once stood, and honeysuckle creeping into a cityscape whose only perfume was smog.
You'll travel around the corner, across the country, through deserts and mountains to more than a dozen states and two foreign countries.
Many thanks to all of you, readers and writers, and to Mr. Bill for hosting this contest in Wanderings and Ponderings. I hope you'll continue your adventure here on these pages for a good, long time!

I can't wait to read the entries I missed and purchase a copy of this book.
Welcome to those of you that just joined the group,
I hope everyone that participated had a good time.
Lisa, this was a lot fun, we will have to get together and scheme
over a virtual bottle of wine, and then do something like this again!
And thanks to Lisa and Mr. Bill for organizing the contest.
This was fun, Lisa. Thank you, and thanks to Mr. Bill!
Like much that occurs in nature, this drawing was truly random--I literally put all of the names into a ballcap and had someone else pick the winner. I couldn't bring myself to judge one essay over another. I'm sure you'll agree that each is personal and wonderful in its own way.
I'll read all the stories...
Angela's essay points out the universal appeal of wildlife watching in the forest.
Angela's story of an afternoon at the billabong is a great read!
Lisa...I've seen and commented on some of these articles when they first came up but I'm going to book mark this page so that I can come back to it when I don't have a houseful of guests and read the rest of the articles I have missed. Thanks.
