Summer travel plans are still a big topic for discussion. Perhaps this summer is a good time to find out why South Carolina is such a popular beach destination. Myrtle Beach is a well known, heavily visited beach spot in South Carolina, and the late spring and summer travel season can be quite busy. The area offers world-class golf, water sports, dining, entertainment, and beaches. For your summer family vacation to South Carolina, I might recommend one of the fun beach destinations close to Myrtle Beach. Some of these neighboring towns offer a great vacation experience in a more relaxed, slower paced setting.
Below are a few suggestions on places you might want to consider:
Garden City Beach, SC
Garden City Beach offers easy access to both the Atlantic Ocean and Murrell’s Inlet. Most visitors to Garden City Beach rent beach houses or condos, so it is a great place to take your family for a week of fun. By renting a house or condo, it is easy to cook meals together. It can add to the fun, and it certainly helps cut down on the cost of your vacation. If you look around, beach houses and condominiums often have really great locations near water and other attractions. If you like to golf, there are some world-class golf courses nearby, including Barefoot Resort, Heather Glen, Heron Point, and Tidewater Golf Club and Plantation.
Garden City Beach is also a great destination if you love sport fishing and water sports. Its convenient location makes it easy to enjoy coastal South Carolina. If you enjoy bird watching, be sure to visit nearby Huntington Beach State Park.
Beaufort, SC
Beaufort is the second oldest settlement in South Carolina, and this coastal destination is full of a rich and interesting history. The area thrived when indigo, rice, and Sea Island cotton were grown, bringing great wealth to the area’s plantation owners.
Beaufort now boasts warm, southern hospitality, a highly educational historic district, restaurants, great natural beauty, and a much quieter atmosphere than neighboring Myrtle Beach.
Around Beaufort, I also recommend the resort rental or vacation home rental option. I think it is one of the most enjoyable ways to experience a beach vacation. You get to have a home away from home, which makes it easy to enjoy all that Beaufort offers. Sit out on a balcony enjoying a meal you prepared with your friends and family.
Like Garden City Beach, you can easily enjoy many of the attractions in the Myrtle Beach area at the same time you have the opportunity of a low-key, relaxing beach vacation.
How about your South Carolina beach vacation? Where did you go, and what did you love about your trip?

Though we can't go on vacation in South Carolina; my daughter did her state report on S. C. and Myrtle Beach does seem very fun and full of entertainment. There are so many historical sites to visit as well. The homes hold so much interest tome as I love the colonial style homes.

Anyone have any beautiful pictures of the Carolinas?
The web site shows they do a lot of good humanitarian things (humanitarian expeditions, donating wheelchairs, supplies, water tanks, emergency assistance to remote island villages). Cool example of how you can go on a great luxury-adventure vacation and at the same time really make a difference to a developing country like Fiji.
