When we first get there. We would unload the car. Hated that, cause I wanted to be on the beach. My mom would say, girls load it up. We have to go shopping for food. Hated that, always thought we could do that later. who was hungry when there was the beach to play on. Then after unloading the car and getting groceries. She then would take forever to get all the beach stuff together. Us kids were so antsy and wanted to get to that beach. We would walk down the steps, right in to the middle of all these cabins. There was a big yard in the middle of all the cabins. They all set on a hill, making is easier to see the beach. You walk down the hill and down a long drive way. There was the back of the motel that made the yard almost enclosed. Down the drive way and to your right was a big church that set on the corner. Years later there was a big storm and the church had to come down. Now there sets a big empty field.
We crossed the road and walked down a small driveway that past the motel that my moms aunt worked at, cleaning the rooms. We wait for a minute to see if she comes out and wave at her as we go by. She smiles and waves back. Its the Nice's motel in that town that over looked the beach, And there it was! Sand and salty water. I stand there close my eyes and smell and listen to the seagulls. I fall right in the sand and feel it between my fingers and toes. Oh how i missed it. Dry seaweed all around me. People walking their dogs. Old people looking for rocks and seashells. People laying out trying to get a suntan. Others using umbrellas, so they don't get burned. I cover myself with a lot of suntan lotion. I'm fair skin and burn easy. I head to the water and stopped.
This beach is on the west coast and in the kinda in the middle of California. You just cant run and get in this water. Oh how it hurts your feet when you first get in. Moms in the back ground laying all the beach towels out and yelling don't go to fall in and your thinking its to cold, the rate I'm going I will never get in. You always have to stand there and let the little waves cover you feet and your feet start sinking in the sand. You always wonder why it does that. After you feet get use to it. Then you go a little bit further and now your up to your waist. Then you scream, because seaweed gets wrapped around your legs. Then before you know it, your body surfing on the waves. It don't take long before your ready to do something else. Moms bored at just setting and watching us. So we all take a walk.
We all grab are buckets, cause we know that there's going to be a lot of seashells. Its a long walk on the beach until we hit big rocks to climb on. So we have a contest to see who could get the most shells and who will be the first to find a starfish shell. There is was, one sticking out of the sand. I go to grab it and pulled it out and there was only half. It was better than none at all and i was in the lead. My favorite was the glass that the sand had made rough. I would pick up a lot of glass. Then the contest would end, because there was the rocks!.
My favorite rocks were the ones that was surrounded by water. You would have to wait for the wave to go back out and then you could run and jump, hoping the water don't get you. When we get over there. We would look for these flower looking creators that was stuck to the rocks and when you stick your finger in them. They would close up. Then you would stand there and let the big waves hit the rocks and get you wet all over again. Then mom would say its time to go back to the cabin. Oh how you hated the walk back, but I knew are first night there, we got to go out to eat. Clam chowder here I come!.
