My son just recently indicated to me that there had been enough confirmed sightings of Big Foot that the government was funding a nationwide search to locate the species. I suggested that it was probably just Cain, and he gave me a kind of "what???" look and I changed the topic. Do you suspect there is such a creature which has avoided our minute examination this long? It sounds almost like a tribe that has somehow hidden itself in the deep forest, except I am not sure there are any deep forests left in North America which have not been trodden under the comparatively little feet of the homo sapiens.
It almost sounds joyous to my ears that such a creature might still exist hidden from view carrying on avoiding humanity. What a mystical experience that would be to run into such a being from a safe vantage point. Course then we will automatically try to capture or kill it or examine it, and thereby destroy another mystery in our world.

If I was going to believe in such a creature, I'd be more apt to consider a yeti or
abominable snowman....lol
On the humorous side, they have a very interesting Bigfoot museum near Redding, Ca.
If the government is really going to fund bigfoot research thats hilarious...HEEHEE
A small number of trained anthropologists and primatologists have publicly taken a pro-sasquatch stance. They are generally regarded as eccentric, if not worse, no matter how respected their mainstream work is. It doesn't seem to matter that they have applied their training and scientific methodology to the available evidence; they are ignored and often ridiculed. Funding for their sasquatch research comes out of their own pockets.
There would certainly be a lot of egg on a lot of faces if the existence of these creatures was ever proven. The anthropological texts would all be in need of a serious rewrite.
By the way, there are still some fairly large tracts of wilderness remaining in North America. While they are by no means unexplored, they are so remote and inaccessible to humans that they would provide prime habitat for a small population of elusive, unclassified North American primates. For now.
Some people hold on to the hope that clear, indisputable photo/video evidence will someday prove the existence of these animals in a non-violent manner. The downside to proving their existence is that every university, government research group, zoo, or circus sideshow would want one for study or display. Strict protection laws would have to be swiftly enacted and enforced, and study limited to credentialed groups with legitimate reasons for observation.
All that being said, I would surely love to see one, although I think it might be a sphincter-tightening (or loosening) experience! :)
