Preparing for our 4th of July trip on the Coast Starlight, L.A. to San Francisco, via the coastal route. We went to the Van Nuys station to pick up the tickets that we bought online, and the agent couldn't have been more helpful. He let us know everything that we needed to know and more, including the fact that there is wine-tasting in the parlor car on the trip from San Francisco to L.A.
On previous trips, we left from Union Station, but Van Nuys is much closer to us. It's a relatively new stop for the Coast Starlight. There's plenty of free parking and the new station is very low-key, which is unusual for Los Angeles.

It was a great trip. I got plenty of great photos, many from the window of my sleeping car! I'm going to post a photo essay of the trip when I get a chance - still catching up on things upon my return from vacation!
