We have travelled on the Coast Starlight train from Los Angeles to San Francisco with our little girl since she was a baby, several times over the last few years and loved it. The trip along the California Coast is really a vacation in itself. Even though it's a daytime trip, we always get the small sleeper car for the extra comfort and privacy.
We are going this year over July 4th week and we're getting the family bedroom option, which should be pretty fun. We couldn't reserve the small sleeper car online, because my daughter is 5 now. Even though it's a lot more expensive, I look forward to having the extra room and 2 windows. Like I said, we consider the train time a vacation in itself.
It's been a couple of years since our last trip on this train and I was wondering if that train still has the Parlor Car with the wine tasting and all that. It made for such a fun experience last time we travelled on the Coast Starlight. I couldn't find anything about it on the Amtrak web site. I hope they haven't discontinued that amenity. Conductor, please let us know about that, and any other fun things for the family that you may suggest we experience while on that trip. Thanks.

Thanks for the kind comments. Wine tasting is still available through our West Coast Spectacular by Rail. I hope to hear more about your Amtrak adventures, past and future!
