Have you ever stayed in a "roomette"

never heard of it

I don't know either what a roomette is. But it sounds like fun anyway!

yes myhusband and I stayed in one. it is small, but it will be ok for the trip. The food was great. There is a small toilet in the room, but a shower is down the hall. One hint bring a pillow to seat on, the chair in the roomett gets hard after a while. I am from LI too, and I know you will be here in orlando so have a good trip. We had a room on AmTrak from Dallas to Chicago and again from Chicago to Seattle. Also from LA to El Paso. Don't know if this is the same as your roomette. The couch made into a bed and there was a bed over that which was made down at night by the porter. During the day there was a small table between the couch and a lounge chair. A small lavatory was in the room. A separate compartment consisted of a toilet with a hand held shower over it. You had to sit down to shower. My husband was too large a man to use it much. Worked fine for me. We had complete privacy. And we got first call in the dining car before the "day people" got to eat. The food was very good. Occasionally they would run out of what I wanted. We tried the day coach on the leg from Seattle to LA since there would be no need of a bed. By the time they let us go to the dining car, all we got was a box lunch to take back to our seat to eat. And it cost about $9.00. Wished we had taken the roomette.

From the description in the Amtrak site, it said there was no toilet in the room- your room might be the bedroom one. I wish I could have taken that one.,,it was 180 dollars more

Last time I was in an American train's Pullman was when I was a very little kid. I rode an Amtrack a few years ago from DC to Denver via Chicago but just had a regular coach seat, which was comfortable and roomy compared to an airline seat. I did notice a couple different types of pullman or roomettes on the Zephyr (the train from Chicago to Denver) some were very small for 1 or 2 people and larger ones for say families. I don't think most of them had ensuite facilities, definitely not showers. There were special private shower/toilet rooms for use by the pullman class passengers (I snuck into one to change clothes, shave, and took a sink-bath before arriving in Denver since I had been on the train for 2 1/2 day ...) So I am not sure exactly what acommodations you will get on your Amtrack adventure, but I think you will be comfortable and enjoy your trip.

I rode in what I think was a roomette from Syracuse to Cleveland. I used the included facility for its intended purpose without pulling down the curtain (it was night - which actually meant that people outside could see inside the lit room even better) and inadvertently flashed Western Pennsylvania.

HAHAHA!!!!lol..that is so funny!!

The roomettes are small. I have a problem with enclosed small spaces from time to time but it doesn't bother me. There is no toilet in the room but there are toilets in the car. I loved my roomette and its the only way to go from now on for me.

I meant to say I am going to take pics of my roomette when I travel this next week.

Oh good, I hope they can post on here!! I can't wait to go in July!...I wish there was a toilet in the room!! but in the same car shouldn't be so bad.
