Dealers and collectors aren't going to give you anything for them. Many will outright rip you off. Looks up the coins on line and check the prices carefully. Find someone you know and trust before you sell them.

Yes, dealers are always looking to make money. I would think ebay would generate you the most money from serious collectors, but Leah has some good advice. Don seems to know a lot about exonumia (coins).

i just did this when my mom passed. she had old bills and coins. i do not remember the site but i called there 800 number cause i need to talk to somone. they were in new york and very helpful

The hard part is knowing the condition of the coins and bills. There is a rating system. Find a good appraiser or go to Donald H as recommended. Good luck and if you find someone, I'd also like to contact them about some inherited coins and bills.

You need to find someone in a bigger city to evaluate them for you

Wow, in one of my previous lives, you talking way long ago, like probably 1977 I actually worked as a Numismatist. If you're not familiar with the term that's what you want. That could actually be fair, if may be a common (large amounts) mint, a year that had many and only fair condition in which case they would pay you weight in silver rate and maybe a few cents more. Value fluctuates, one year way back may have been 20 bucks an ounce then may go down to a few bucks only. But if it is in mint condition, a rare year or a rare mint mark for that year (say 1898 P, or S or D indicating what minted in Philadelphia, SanFrancisco or Denver) it could shoot way up to an exorbitant amount. The fewer there were to begin with, the fewer that are left and the better the condition (judged by very minute details) the more collectors will want it and the higher the value. RESEARCH. This info should be easily found online I would think
