I've said before that you don't have to reply to my comments but there are certain people I do hope will reply with a pat on my head. I assume most read the comments they receive and send out replies to those comments accordingly.

I admit that although I do read each comment I receive to recent posts, my older posts  are somewhat neglected, shame on me.

  • Am I the only nut or does it matter to you that someone reads and replies to your comments?
  • If so, is it general or are there specific people you hope will reply?

In my case, it has been very frustrating. Gather has not alerted me to comments on my posts, pics or to responses to my comments for months. I feel so bad when I go back to an old post & someone has commented, and it seems I am ignoring them, but I don't check my posts & pics daily.

In answer to your question, No, you aren't a nut, it is only the polite thing to do, reply to a comment. I must admit, I do have my fav people that I hope will respond and they usually do =)

For the most part, it does matter to me that people read my comments and reply if they wish to. Usually the things I reply to are in a thread anyway, so it ends up being a chat. I'm not a general commenter who says 'thanks for sharing'. If I don't have anything to say, I don't say anything....but I'm seldom at a loss for words, so I've been told a time or two in my life :) I do read a lot that I don't comment on...especially if I don't agree. I find very few people want to debate (I love a good debate), they'd rather argue and be mean and I'm not playing.

And...I LOVE your comments on my comments, Amy!!!

Plus, if I am on someone's post and I see you, I always slip in a hi even if your comment is from months ago. Just like for you to know I saw you! =)

I understand that Gather is not the only life we have so I don't sweat it when people don't have time to read or comment. There are so many of us who care about each other's feelings as I do yours Lady LM. So I make an effort to comment on as many as I can to many as I can but I'm only one person who two hands and I'm doing the best that I can(to comment) and I respect that you're doing the same.Soo when ya don't have time......you still have a friend.

It depends on the type of post I guess. If its just some random off the wall thing that popped into my head then no not really. If its a more involved post, then yes I like to see people comment on it.

I try to reply to comments, but they sometimes get ahead of me and I don't get around to it. I don't mind when someone doesn't respond to mine, so I don't feel too bad about missing something like that.

I just love that we get email notice when someone replies to our comments.....before gather added that, honestly I just wouldn't know.....didn't have time to go back to each thing I had commented on to check either
it's one great feature they added with one of the upgrades

If anyone comments, are you obligated to say thanks for commenting, and then you want themto say thanks for telling me thanks that I commented? We all like them, but don't "expect" certain people to be there every time. Look at any one, Gather posts seem to have a life span of about 10 hours, then people are eager to respond to the next new thing. I personally will avoid those who put up a lot of "soap opera" posts just for points expecting comments.

I try to comment back on my stuff, I like when people comment.
There are certain people I know will leave more than just a one word comment.
But like Marilyn said not all my connections do not get notifications either. I just happy most come and check it out.

I don't reply to each and every comment and I don't expect anyone to reply to the majority of my comments. I don't see the point in making a reply that is simply a thank you when the person leaving the comment is probably more interested in me leaving a comment on one of their posts or photos.

I have certain people who I really enjoy their comments simply because they arent "drive by" comments.
I try to comment on things that interest me.
I have even dabated a few things of conflicting interest.
But I never argue with anyone on here about their views, its such a mixed bag of ideas I learn from them.
Your topics, some of which I have found educational at least, are almost always interesting, some downright hilarious!

i get notifications when someone replies to my comments left on someone elses page.

i use to have it set so I'd get notified for everything and my inbox was overflowing so now i check my posts and reply accordingly to comments i recieve

I like to read comments, I look for certain comments on different posts, I like to see if someone is moved by poetry, or just see what kind of stuff I get if its a question some I do not reply to only because it is a rather closed sentence if I feel it is expecting one I offer though...

I don't receive email notice when someone replies to my post, but I receive an email when I have left a comment and someone has commented back on my comment. Sometimes it takes me time to get back to someone who has left me a comment
