List a lie your history teacher or government tried to feed you as truth.
This should be easy if you have paid any attention at all since becoming an adult.... I'm sure you can think of enough to keep this game going through tomorrow's fireworks.

I didn't pay attention in History... I had a teacher who looked like Yoda from star wars, and spoke with a lisp and studdard..
It was hard to pay attention to her!
I can't think of a direct lie taught as history at the moment. However, teaching "Northern European White Man" history as "World History" is more than enough. You'd think that no one else every did anything in the whole world unless it was interacting with some guy from Northern Europe.
Maybe everyone else just froze in place until the next expedition came to relieve them of their culture and valuables...
Thinking caps on!
(Sorry. It just struck me funny!)
Ronald Reagan cut down on needless government policies and spending. Also, and this is my blood-pressure-raising favorite, FDR should have just waited for the economy to right itself (once all the pesky poor people had starved to death).
The United States is the free-est country in the world. (Sorry, I could type that with a straight font.)
This is, of course, modified from the PREVIOUS lie in which Iraq was said to actually HAVE weapons of mass destruction. Oh, and ties to al-Qaeda. They never had those, either. Until we got there.
Sure, and so was the bloodshed that came with it.
hold on again while I take some deep breaths . . .
and get the tissues . . .
(elected)
WAIT! I went to Catholic school. That means I was raised Christian, and therefore could not have done what I did. I am not responsible. Never mind. Use your sleeve.
GWB thought the only thing on his agenda for Sept. 11 was a pesky little book reading in some school down there by his brother's place.
I think my fave is the one where they say we are killing people in Iraq because 9/11 was caused by.....
*drum roll*
Someone from Iran
I have many, many more faves and raves... but I'm enjoying hearing them from you guys.
Are they still teaching this?
Carry on. I'll be back in the morning... or midnight to youse guyz.
GWB has a large, square wart on his back.
The Monroe Doctrine was for the purpose of protecting our neighbors to the South.
The Spanish-American War was fought to free Cuba and other Spanish colonies.
The USSR and its allies practiced communism.
The US has a free enterprise economy.
Except that one FBI guy.
Well, and the guy he told, and the boss HE told.
And the guy that wrote the report about it.
America is a Democracy. (It's a Republic.)
George Washington was the first President. (He was just the first under the new Constitution. We had Presidents before the Constitution was ratified.)
The Ride of Paul Revere. (Nope.)
Puritan morals. (There were more "shotgun weddings" and illegitimate births then than there are now.)
American government forms were a completely new idea. (Actually based heavily on the Roman Republic. The founders even referred to the USA as the "New Republic.")
The founders were Christians. (Some were, many were not. A bunch were "rational deists" but not Christian. A lot of the key people were Masons, which is why our State Seal and money have so many Masonic symbols.)
The early settlers came to America to get away from repression. (Some few did, but most came to get rich quick. They brought the repression - for others - with them.)
And I could go on .. and on. And that's just the history teachers. Gov'ment? Essentially, if you see their lips moving ...
When women got the right to vote it was the end of Feminism because everything became all right. By magic, no doubt.
I think we covered that the Civil War was not about slavery. I believe it was about secession of statehood.
The new settlers landed on Plymouth Rock-NOT, they landed farther south in what would be Connecticut.
They ate turkey, cranberries, and all the trimmings at our first Thanksgiving. I gotta say this is not one I'm sorry for learning incorrectly. Could you imagine eating fish for Thanksgiving? Not me.
Good morning John! I love it when my posts get hijacked ;)
There's plenty and I'm learning about more lies everyday of my adult life. I just can't think of any right now. Besides...I've really tried to forget the falsehoods...They just tick me off.
