Don't attack me, I'm entitled to my opinions. This is one. However, Let me explain...'average citizen' - means just that -John Q Public.
I am not naming names. If you take offense to anything written - I simply ask that you ask yourself ...why?
Everywhere I look, I see more and more things that disappoint me. Our country is simply falling apart. It has been for years. The majority of it's citizens would rather turn a blind eye. Because seeing it would mean three things. First that they must ACCEPT it. Own some of it. That won't happen. Denial is the way to go. At least statistics seem to point that way. Ownership and responsibility are two things that the current average citizen seems to have forgotten about. They put less stock in it, that's for sure. The proof is in the country's children. Look around. That's what they are being taught. Kids learn by example. Parents know this, yet it continues. On top of that, we all know a 'not my kid' parent. They are everywhere. The problem is -kids aren't perfect. Mistakes are how they learn. If you think they never make a mistake, or ownership is never taught -then aren't you telling them -they're perfect? Perfect people don't make mistakes. But they place a lot of blame on those who do... who aren't perfect. Anyone but themselves.
Adults make mistakes all the time, yet very few own up to them. "I'm sorry" is very seldom heard these days. On any level from personal lives to the business world, to politics. People believe they are perfect.
People who think that way don't accept responsibility for a mistake occurring in the first place. Why should they accept responsibility for repairing it? Which brings to me to the second reason. Once you accept that an error has occurred - there has to be an effort to REPAIR it. Damage control. Before it get's worse, because they always do... People don't want to do so. It's easier not to. Someone else will. Our country has become in every way, a lazy society. Not only does society do the least amount of work that it can get away with, but it does it in the chintziest way possible. Spend the least to do the least. Assuming that someone now accepts responsibility, and is willing to move toward repair, it's going to take money to do so. Who's money? This is the third reason. People have become selfish, money is good. More money is great.
The more money the better --For themselves.
People without money -need money.
People with money -want more money.
The people with the money don't want to give it up. It's theirs, they 'earned' it, they are entitled to keep it. That's how a "me" society thinks.
The people without the money, would be willing to give it -if they had it. But they don't. They do however, understand what it means to 'live by your means' -whatever that may be. They agree that if their needs were met, they would then be willing to give up any excess, to help others. They don't know 'greed'. How could they?
People with "more money than they know what to do with" need only ask someone without it. Ideas would be plenty. But they don't ask. It's their money. They don't feel bad. They don't even think about it, they don't have time. There's more money to be made...
Changing the world around us -on any level, would require that people stop being a 'me' society. Start opening their eyes to what is happening, and then WHY it is happening. Then furthermore, be committed to change it. But changing something -anything- would require a great deal of thought, money and honest hard effort.
How many people do you know that would be willing [or able] to commit all three? Sure everyone knows someone who would or could commit to one or two...but that third one...it'll be the deal breaker
Beside's, there's no need too, right? ...everything's perfect.
