What do We the People Really Know about our Government ?
I cannot speak for other countries in this world, but in America the general arrangement has been thus;
The relatively few at the top of the economic hierarchy have formed and control the 'banking system'. There it is determined who gets to use 'their' money and at what cost (interest and collateral), and for other 'terms' such as time.
They then create a next lower level of 'management' that they label as the 'voice' of the people that they have offered the perceived perception of working 'for' the people. All 'information' is on a 'need to know' basis from the 'top' down ... so no one ever really knows just what the entire truth of the whole operation is all about except those at the very top that have formed and control the whole entire 'system'.
The nation is built then with labor and dreams of more wealth from the 'bottom' up, the carrot being the $$$ ... yet the Intelligence that guides it all, is from the top down (the mind is more powerful than the muscle), but the people at the bottom are 'led' to believe that 'they', through their 'freely elected' government, actually 'control' the entire process. It is extremely important they the people continue to believe that they themselves are 'in charge' of the 'system' and that their regulating government is working for them rather than for those at the top of the hierarchy, the people with ALL of the money.
The people then fall into generally three major distinctions or 'classes', all of which are at the level 'below' the government and are thus subject to the 'rules' of the government. These would of course be the upper, middle, and lower classes.
All are encouraged to participate in 'their' government and are told that it is 'they' that own that government (that is as far as they 'need' to know about that). There are 'lower' level, more localized governments that are set up where the people actually do have much more 'say' in who is elected to represent them, but the higher up the 'elective' scale of advancement politicians go, or get, the more they run into the 'wall' of $$$ that it takes to advance further ... eventually they reach a level in the system where $$$ (remember who owns those $$$) determines who gets to 'play' the game.
So we have the 'upper' level of the major 'known' three, that often become Republicans, as they believe themselves major 'players' in the systems upper $$$ hierarchy (they have NO need to know better) and they thus feel that 'they' are actually in control (and THEY are most definitely major CONTRIBUTORS) ... of course the 'system' is divided (as in divide and conquer) to include a 'competing' party, the Democrats, that garner the 'opposing' following.
Then ALL of the peoples, below the level of the 'bankers' hiding at the very top, are encouraged to look to each other only, as the 'players' of importance to the entire 'game' that they are convinced is the totality of their 'reality'.
The Repubs are led to believe that they are the 'movers and shakers', the dominate controllers of upper mobility, offering the most intelligent answers for the direction of the country, a special club of entitlement about $$$ ...
The Dems then are supposed to be for the middle and lower class, the 'average' American who 'needs' that protection of 'their' interests from the domineering Repubs. The Dems then 'offer' promise, and some relief to be kept credible, for the middle and especially the lower class, that has absolutely NO power 'otherwise' ... actually having ONLY the power of their VOTE and NOthing else.
The major 'game' though, is the 'lending', the offering of $$$ as loans for the building of everything, business (as usual) and homes ... every one then is INVESTED IN the $$$ GAME ... home, business, work, play, transportation, health systems, and above all, RETIREMENT systems ... $$$.
To the degree of their investment and associated dreams of payoff, they are 'locked' into the 'system', the GAME they call reality. The upper class does quite well, they are generally 'well off' ! The VAST middle class just goes along, hoping to break in to the upper class, while they pay the bulk of the COSTS of all of the other ... and the lower class is just kept around for their votes it seems ... most of which go to the Dems anyway, because the Dems NEED those votes and are more willing to offer programs to the poor to get them ... thus so negatively criticised by the 'rich' Repubs ... and the GAME goes on and on and on ... as long as everyone really believes IT is the ONLY game in town.
Oh yes, I almost forgot, the Bankers have another secondary 'offering' ... for all of those that are fearful ... and who would not be fearful after watching what they 'think' they know of the system operate, … INSURANCE ... another whole industry business to 'take care' ... (really, "TAKE") the people ! We are in "Good Hands" with our inSUREnce companies ... just ask the residents involved with Katrina.
WE THE PEOPLE really do have a NEED TO KNOW MORE ... much MORE than we are so far ALLOWED.

It's a shame so many people are blind to what you have said. This is definitely not our "parents" govt anymore. It's one that through secrecy and denial has actually become a money making corporation for those in the right places and for ones left out, "Oh Well"..........
We just might get some actual control ... someday ... after it all goes 'bankrupt', which will just leave us all holding an empty bag. We seem to be well on our way to that at the present time.
Bigger than we can conceive of, as long as we think we're always individuals, or that human consciousness is the highest there is. Lol.
As we unblock our mental capabilities by allowing our magical inner child (the children that heaven is made of, remember?) to play in other forms of awareness - now the tiger, now the lotus, now the whole forest - then we'll be opening to new, more powerful ways of being.
We'll lose interest in allowing ourselves to be manipulated - we'll simply move beyond that.
Jerry, I can't help noticing that the scenario you describe is typical of governments with not enough feminine energy, so that the the immature patriarchy goes rogue.
Looking at our potential from the highest good of the future, rather than from the grinding imbalance logic of the past, I'm seeing things changing for the better. The reason? Something very doable - the reason is WOMEN CHILDREN TREES. Women in office, the Rights of the Child (U.N.) as the standard for human good, and dedication to Reforestation.
And there are non-embodied groups working with us in the dark/light game of duality, as long as humanity is still playing with that way of seeing things. There are non-human plans and movements working through us as well as "working" us....
Bigger than we can conceive of, as long as we think we're always individuals, or that human consciousness is the highest there is. Lol.
I agree with that very much, the spiritual realm is vast and infinite, beyond our knowing, but never the less 'real' and working 'with' us all for the greater good.
The beauty of knowing this is that 'fear' is no longer a part of this life. One comes to know that there are no such things as 'accidents' when the greater picture is taken into context.
As for the feminine need, yes, that is a much needed element of thought, but it IS available withIN the mind of the male even IF and when he becomes open to it ... but meanwhile I am open for sure to women in places of leadership ... it is ALL about Balance though ... something very lacking in a dualistic society always seeking 'extremes'.
I happen to think it would be fantastic to have a "black lodge" or "red tent" every New Moon for the feminine office-holders to rest and vision and tell matriarchal stories and sing together, and bleed...Women purify themselves monthly; and women of power can use their intention and spiritual energy during that time to assist the nation in purifying itself as well. No old-boys club I've ever heard of could match that scenario.
There are
(+=-) I would vote for Hillary AND Bill ... that would be a good experiment. :-)
While I don't share Tom Friedman's view as to the particular positives and negatives of a flat and shrinking world, there's no doubt that it is flat and shrinking and that isn't all bad. For better or worse we are all in this boat together. It's becoming almost impossible to deny what our world neighbors are doing. I also find it ironic that we may know as about other world governments -- if we choose to know -- as we do about our own.
Some of them would congratulate themselves as 'thinking positive' ... what I see as the ostrich sticking it's head in the sand.
Or maybe they like to think of themselves being 'patriotic', as right in line with their 'leaders' ... more like 'nationalism' IMnsHO ... and those in denial probably do not even recognise the difference.
I have read Tom Friedman's books, at least the last two I am aware of, "The Olive Tree and the Lexus" and "The World is Flat", I think they were called, it was when they each came out, so I do not remember just what I thought about his position.
I think the main reason that inquiring minds know what they do, is because of the freedom of the Internet ... we would all be at the mercy of our leaders without that.
As for what our 'neo-cons' do with/about Iran, remains to be seen. I would love to see the world recognise that real peace is THE way for all ... but I suspect that too many will only learn that with great difficulty and extreme hardship ... Karma is always accounting and there are no accidents. I find it all extremely interesting, to say the least.
I watched Tavis Smiley's "Statement on Black America" which was very inspiring. I watched it last year too and wondered if it would hold together and it has. "The covenant" is all about the babies, Carolion. There were many good discussions and they made it plain that Obama should not count on their vote. Apparently, he picked the very same day as their event to announce his candidacy in Illinois. Professor Cornel West had some things to say about Lincoln and revisionist history.
Also saw Kucinich and his wife on a speech in New Hampshire. Didn't know he had a wife. She's stunningly articulate and has worked in India with Mother Teresa's groups, the middle east, and in Africa I believe. They both went to Lebanon. Regardless how the campaign goes, they are both doing good work. The audience was very against war.
Good work Jerry!
Do you really believe that the elites cohere in any such way that would allow them to conspire to design the economic and political system in which we live? It's more likely that the system naturally evolved and a few simply exploited the pre-existing structure to their own advantage.
When this nation first began, the English attempted to transfer their control to this continent. Our founding fathers had other ideas for us ... thanks be to God I believe. Yet eventually our own system has become very corrupted and the corrupters are multi-national now ... they have a definite agenda ... and the 'question' is NOT about original design or simple exploitation ... it IS about what is actually happening because of it.
I will stick to my scenario for now. I have ample evidence, far too vast to list here, to back up what I believe. The 'other' question is ... when are we going to pull our heads out of the sand and begin to look around ? So far there is half a nation that wants to give this system a free pass without question ... if they wait too long, they may really regret it.
In our country, the national debates for the presidency never include third party candidates (Perot excepted). The ostensible reason is that "they" don't want to muddy the waters, to give voice to a handful of crackpots, and that too many voices would dilute the discussion. The actual reason is that if more people were actually exposed to some of these third pary candidates, the controlling parties might actually be in real danger of losing their control. By pricing the electoral process out of the reach of all but the wealthiest of candidates, they ensure that their control is not at risk.
I refuse to close by eyes and push the button for the candidate that makes me throw up the least, which is what our artifically created "choices" come down to these days. I will continue to support like- minded candidates of integrity, although they have a snowball's chance in hell of getting elected. And I will continue to race full tilt at windmills. At least it lets me sleep at night.
