Is there a Registered Offender in your area?

Ever wondered how safe your neighborhood is? If you can trust a neighbor being near your kids? 90% of sexual assaults are committed against someone the perpetrator knows. Well, there is a website that shows you a map of registered offenders (sexual, violence, etc). That website is called Family Watchdog.

All you have to do is go to the website, enter your address or zip code and a map will appear. On the map you may find registered offenders against children, rapist, violent offenders, etc. It will mark the offender's home and work address. This main map will also mark the schools in the area.

Click on any mark on the map and another screen pops up. This new screen has tabs that you can click on that has a photo of the offender along with their name, description, and what they were convicted of and in what court. Also their address, distance from the address you entered, and a close up map of the address.

Also on the main page are statistics, tips, alerts, and areas to give donations.

Try it out...you may be amazed with how many registered offenders are in your area.

Scary. To bad they don't all register.

I live in Central Florida and I think this state has a Sex Offender problem or something, I have 77 listed within 1 square mile of my residence, 2 are labeled as Predators.

There is a lot living in the neighborhood behind mine. The majority of them are child predators and rapist. My husband refuses to let the kids play in the yard by themselves. It's hard for me to get use to since I grew up in a very small town and had a house in the country. It makes me sad I can't just let me kids play in their own yard.

I have a thing on my computer that sends me an e-mail whenever a registered sex offender moves into my neighborhood or changes residences. I get about 3 or 4 of these alerts a week. It also gives me local Amber Alerts. We also have a MI registered sex offender site that tells us the addresses of all sex offenders in our zip code. It gives photos of the offenders too and tells what crime they committed.

Ha! I live in the middle of Los Angeles. 688 offenders came up when I plugged my address in.

So why would anyone be surprised by these numbers? Of course there are going to be some bad people everywhere.

OK..now I'm freaked out! There is a registered offender just 2 streets to the west of the elementary school...apparently he is just far enough away to be legal...this is scary but a good thing to know. thanks for the link, I'll be sure to pass it on to my "block parent" friends.

I like this site the best because it shows the offenders that live and work in the area. I have 97 within the search perimeters.

No, I'm not shocked. I know they are out there. But, that doesn't mean that I accept them or what they've done. I'm set up on my sherrif's website to be notified if someone listed as an offender moves in. But, you don't think about the resteraunts and stores you visit. Much less the parks and playgrounds - these guys (and girls) don't just sit around all day.

The ones you really need to worry about are the ones who haven't been caught. Just because you know where the ones who have been caught are, that doesn't mean you are safer. I honestly don't understand what good this will do when half the time kids are being molested by family members.

"What good it does"...if you know that they are registered then you know what you are dealing with. Would you rather be completely ignorant? You need to worry about them all equally...the ones you know are registered and the ones that haven't been caught.

What if you fall in love with someone not knowing they were a registered offender...what do you think are going to happen to you or your kids? Most people don't leave such a relationship because they fear what the person will do to them if they leave or take the blame. There are multiple examples why the ability to know a registered offender is needed.
