Goats Beard in Marco

Yellow Salsify or Goats Beard. It's scientific name is Tragopogon dubius, tragopogon being Greek for goats beard, hence the name. The flowers are a smallish yellow dandelion looking blossom and the seed heads shown here are very similar to a dandelions. Only much bigger. Yeah I know it's an intrusive weed nobody wants to see growing in their garden, let alone going to seed. I however find the way they are put together interesting. I enjoy having a closer look in other words.

Following are four macro shots taken with my Olympus C2500L in July, 2009 at my daughter in laws in Spokane Valley, Spokane, Washington State.

I guess it just doesn't take much to hold my interest.

I think, way back when I was much, much shorter, I remember seeing someone spray paint these with gold paint. An arts and crafts type project.

Nice pictures. :) Yellow or wild salsify is edible, too. The leaves can be added to salad and the roots are the same as cultivated salsify, although usually smaller. Good stuff.
